I want lighter wheels (and can you help me with therie weights?)!

Just picked up my '11 MCS and I have the 16" star spoke's on. I really want the 17" conicals on, but now I am thinking that I do not want a heavier wheel, or four of them. Which leads me to the JCW cross-spoke 17's. Since they are JCW, they should be lighter and forged, correct?
Does anyone here know where to find the weights of the three wheels I have mentioned?
Thanks,
aaron

There is a thread about wheel weights at the top of this forum section. The short answer is no the challenge spoke wheels aren't very light (23lbs) and really none of the oem wheels are light when compared to aftermarket options.

Thank you Creeve but they do not have any of the wheel weights that I have requested.
Island maser, what are the weights of your cross spokes?

Take a look at this:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f...factory_wheels

Not all the weights are there yet but hope they will update the site with more information soon.

JCW Challege Spoke is neither light (as Creeve pointed out) or Forged.

I have know idea. But they are heavy. They have a metal band in them for the RF so I know that adds weight.

I suggest picking up some lightweight aftermarket wheels. Enkei has some great light weight wheels that looks pretty darn good too.

THanks Evasive, I am starting to think that is the route I am going to go. Unfortunatly, most of the aftermarket options look just that, aftermarket. I am searching for something that looks OEM, but is obviously a light wheel.

Weight vs. strength vs. cost

Is strength important to you? If so, particularly for day to day street realities, you are going to want to go to forged instead of cast to get the weight down, which means more $$. If you go cast to save money and manage to find light, expect to bend wheels w/ lower profile tires on the street.

Another option too: look at tire weight--those can vary 10-20% if you just click through the specs on TireRack. I now factor that into my tire selection decisions, especially if it is a close call and the weights vary materially.

You could try DiamondRacingWheels.com. They can make any size, offset, and bolt pattern. So let's say 16x7? 6" Backspace? Using the non-DOT material? That would barely weigh anything! My future 15x15s with the light weight material will only weigh about 11 lbs. So 16x7 should be a little lighter. Check em out!

http://www.diamondracingwheels.com/pro.html

Remember, the weight on their page is for the DOT approved material. The non-DOT will be about 1/2 the weight.

Oh yeah, And they are Frick'n inexpensive, Lol. Just try em out!
