G2 Caliper Paint Thoughts
G2 Caliper Paint Thoughts
I have a 08 Clubman S Pepper White and since I can't afford real Red Brembo Calipers, I have heard that the G2 Paint system works very well, has anyone used it on their Mini and have any pictures or thoughts on the process? I heard it looks rather nice, I want to try red. Thanks
See the other thread about brake caliper covers
Yes you can paint your brake calipers with any heat resistant paint
G2 does OK, so does Duplicolor.
Just search for past threads about how to paint them-

For street use they hold up ok.
For track the heat of the caliper and brakes may discolor red into a brown and need to be repainted after a few sessions.
For Rallycross the dirt and rocks flying around can be caught between the wheels and the calipers and chip off the paint.

Used G2 and spray both
I think VHT spray is better. VHT = Very High Temperature; it's a brand.
Almost impossible to get brush marks out of G2, at least when I was painting silver. They weren't so obvious in black. Then tried VHT spray. Really even finish, sticks well. Dries quite hard, as does the G2.
G2 advantage is you have no overspray worries and can do it w/ out masking. VHT advantages are the better finished look (assuming you prep it right), that it is right out of the can instead of two part mix, and that since it isn't two part mix you can easily touch up later w/ a bit more spray. VHT cheaper too, unless you go hog wild with tons of coats, sanding, etc. in which case it probably is still no more than G2.
Can find VHT on Amazon by the way. Duplicolor is another option, and some use barbeque spray paint.

I've used the paint on G2 many times in the past and they're the only ones I'll ever use. I've never really had issues with brush marks as long as you apply it on thick. The paint will smooth out if there's a good layer on paint on the caliper. I just like the fact that you don't have to worry about taping anything up or having any overspray. A steady hand is all you need.
I've been using G2 for over 9 years with good results . I usually re do them once or twice a year which takes all of 45 min . Put it on nice and thick and it will look just fine . I tried a spray style once and it just the masking process took longer than it did to do the entire operation with the brush .
