sorry to say...I went with the GTI

Hey everyone, just saying a goodbye of sorts. I've wanted a Mini Cooper S for years now (tried to purchase one prior to picking up my last two cars, but could never get the price anywhere near what I could afford). As a huge fan of Mini's, I've also been following NAM almost daily for the last two years, if not more. Mini's are by far the most fun car to drive. Unfortunately, since I first tried to pursue a Cooper S, I've gotten married, bought a house (and therefore have become quite familiar with my local Home Depot!) and am planning a family within the lifetime of this car. Therefore, with sad regret I opted to go with a used 2007 4-door GTI. I simply couldn't pass up the deal. It's not as much fun as the Mini, but it's still a blast to drive and the extra cargo room, along with the rear doors, are going to be a necessity in the future.

As I went through my car search, I've followed multiple forums for all the cars I was considering: GTI, RX-8, 3 series, G35, and I'm sure a couple of others I'm not thinking of. I guess the main reason I'm writing all of this is that it deserves to be said: IMO, NAM is hands down the best. Always helpful responses, great contributions, and a minimum of snarky jerks. This forum is a huge selling point for Mini's. No other forum comes close, and they're all pretty good too.

So with that, I bid you all farewell. Happy motoring everyone and I look forward to seeing you all on the road.

Cheers.

Sorry to see you leave. Best time to buy house is now, maybe in 5 years or so the economy will get better and your house will gain equity so you can pull money for a Clubman S. Good Luck.

Good luck with the GTI I have several VW's over the years and am partial to the brand but went with a MINI this time around. Your decision was a good one for your obvious reasons. I feel though the MINI build quality is a bit better than any current VW. I am sure you will eventually want to trade your GTI for the CC those two are my favorite new VDubs. GL!

You've been bitten by the bug...we'll see you back in a few years when you inevitably get your MINI Cooper S!

Sorry to see you go, but you made the right choice for your life and your family. There will be time and space for a MINI in the future. Looking forward to seeing you back one day!

GTI certainly is more utilitarian! Great engine, and if you can mod the suspension, it'll handle very well! Enjoy!

Please...if you were a MINI fan...you wouldn't have gotten the GTI.

There are deals out there to purchase a MINI...a more fun to drive car.

Good Luck.
