R102-16 S Winder Wheels & Tires

I Have A 2009 Cooper (r56). I Upgraded At Purchase To The 16" S-winder Wheels. I've Almost Exhausted The Oem Run Flats And Am Starting To Look For Good Non-run Flat Tires. The Stock Tire Size Is 195/55/16. The Mini Web Site Says The Rims Are 16 X 6. Does Anyone Know The Optional Tire Sizes Which Will Fit This Wheel And The Car? For Example, Will 205/60/16 Fit The Wheel And Car? I Have Bought A Winter Set Of Wheels And Snow Tires, So Any Additional Recommendations Of Tires Will Also Be Appreciated. No Plans For Track Days, Just Looking For A Good Riding/handling 40,000 Mile Tire. Thanks.

a 205/60 is going to cause your speedometer to be off by 3 mph and hurt your acceleration. might help highway gas mileage though.

ideally you want something close to stock diameter.

I've had 215 wide tires on s-winders before.

I agree with MM that the 205/60 is taller than most people want. Popular alternative sizes for the 16" wheels include 205/50 and 205/55. The former is about .3" smaller in diameter than OE, while the latter is about .4" larger in diameter than OE. Both of those sizes offer more tires to choose from than the OE size does. Thus the 205/50 lowers the ride height by about .15", registers slightly higher mph and mileage than the OE tire size, and provides a slightly firmer ride. The 205/55 raises ride height about .2", registers slightly lower mph and mileage than the OE tire size, and provides a slightly softer ride. In addition, the taller tire provides slightly better protection from "mushrooming", while the shorter tire provides slightly less protection.

The 16" MINI wheels are 6.5" wide rather than 6".

Tire rack dashed my hopes of stuffing 225/50r16's on 16" OZ ultraleggaras under my mini today. =(

They said they rub in the back unless I flared out the fenders. I wound up going with 205/50r16's.

I have 3 sets of wheels and tires for my '07 MCS. One set has 205/50 16 Goodyear Eagle F1's on R102 S Winders. In addition, I run 15 mm spacers front and rear. I don't usually carry any passengers and rarely more than 1. Given that info I can also say that I have not had problems with tires rubbing on the fender flares. The suspension is stock MCS with the factory optional "sport" springs and sway bars. The car has 40K miles and the springs have "settled" considerably since new. Do what you want with this info but I think 205/50 16's are a good set up on my S winders. Of my 3 sets these are the lightest wheels with the stickiest tires.

Thanks folks! This is the type of information which a site like this is great for. Also thanks for the link to the cool tire calculator! All very helpful.

I have a 2009 Clubman S with S-Winders and Yokohama Avid Envigors in 205-50-16. Very pleased with look and performance of tire in this size.

I recently installed 205/55R16 on my R56 and tires have ample clearance.
The 205/55 sidewalls already look too big for a 'sporty' car... so I'd imagine 205/60 will look like your mini is riding on balloons :D.

Would love to see how the 205/55-16 looks on your car as I'm considering between 50 and 55.
