Repairing a bent wheel
Repairing a bent wheel
So I've had a set of wheels waiting to be put on for almost a year now, along with fresh tires as well.
Just been waiting till I burn through my current tires on my stock rims, to make the switch. Now that my tires are on their last legs, one of them won't hold air...so it is time to put the new wheels/tires on.
Problem being, one of the wheels is bent.
I got the wheels (18" Exel TZ-10) from a friend of mine who never put them on, who in turn got them from one of his friends who never used them either. However, unknown to either of us, one of the lips on the wheels is actually bent slightly as seen below:

So I had just planned on buying a new one to replace it (they are pretty cheap). But WheelMax.com is the only place I know of to get one, and I do not know what their deal is, but their online order system does not work and I cannot ever get a hold of anyone there...so I'm thinking they're out of business or something. So seeing as I need them on NOW...I need to get it fixed.
Is this something that is fixable...for a reasonable price? If so, how much do you think? I also need to get the bolt holes bored out to 14mm, cuz they are drilled for the pre-2007's 12mm.

Thumper,
Alex@Tireack.com gave me a couple of names of wheel repair places that are "good". I do not have the names now but I hope he can provide them to you. Drop him an email or call him at ext 294.

1) www.google.com
2) search: wheel repair <your zip code>
3) contact results for personal opinion of their competence

I just had a wheel repaired on my other car and it cost $100. About the same as a new wheel, butt they don't make it anymore. Also, my bend was on the inside lip. With the location of your bend, it will probably require refinishing as they heat the aluminum with a torch to re-bend back in shape.

You shouldn't need to bore the wheels, they just require thinner tuner lug bolts. Just given you then heads up. I had them on my R53 and I'm putting them on my R56.
I don't want to run the stud kit, so I'm drilling.
I think you will have to carry your wheel to wheel mechanic, they will put your wheel on a machine and can be straitened.
