Tire Pressure Monitor TPM not Resetting

The Tire pressure monitor will not reset on 2009 My Clubman. When I run through the “SET/INFO” and then the “INACTIVE RESET” I push and hold the button and nothing happens. It should go to the “RESETTING” message but nothing happens.

Things that I have tried:
  • Check Tire Pressure, they are all within 0.5 psi from each other.
  • Increase Tire Pressure, they are all at specified pressure 38psi.
  • Change between my winter & summer set of tires/rims.
  • Temperature change throughout the day is 30F to 50F
It must be something in the computer system, because if it was one of the tire sensors gone bad or needing to be re-set, switching to a new set of tires, rims, tire sensors would have corrected the problem. I called the dealer and got no answers. I’m 3000 miles from the nearest dealer. Help!

See page 60 and 61 of your manual and follow everything step by step.

1) Start car.
2) Press repeatedly until display reads: SET/INFO
3) Press and hold until display changes.
4) Press repeatedly until display shows tire symbol and displays: RESET
5) Press and hold until display changes.
6) Start driving.

Any step missed and it won't work, take too long and you lose the display and have to start over. Remember to start the engine at the beginning, and drive it at the end.

My wife cannot set any personal settings on the display, and it takes me a bit because it times out so quick. But I thought resetting the TPMS was pretty easy after a visit to the tire store.

After hitting the reset, you need to drive around for up the 3-5 minutes to complete the reset. Not sure what else could be a problem.

Sorry that is not it.... I have tried all of that....
Step 5 does not work. the display never changes to "RESETTING" no matter how long you push the button. And If you try to start driving while holding the button, it completely goes back to the main display.

It'a never says RESETTING. It just changes from RESET. Then drive it. Don't drive it while holding the button - that is not one of the steps.

Have a friend look at it, sometimes it's just a mental block - sure is with my wife.

To original poster, did you install new wheels with TPMS?

I get the sense maybe you did from your first post. If so, I have an idea.

I have a similar problem, my system never resets. I do get the resetting message, but resetting continuously fails. I suppose I'll have to have the dealer look at it.

If I lived that far from a dealer, I think I'd have to get the latest and greatest factory service reset/ programming computer. and do it myself. Or maybe start a Mini dealership...lol

Probably a bad sensor

My Michelin Tire store hooked a monitor to my PCM and located the bad sensor when I had the same problem.

Try to find a quality tire store that will have what is needed to check this out for you. You will probably have to go to your Mini Dealer to get a new sensor because most tire stores don't have access to them.

The first step is to find out exacty which one went bad.

Ronnie thanks, I actually purchased the wheels and tires from Tire Rack so going to work with them initially. If nothing changes, I will see what next step they want me to take.

Well if the tires and wheels and sensors are new the wrong sensors might have been installed. MINI changed frequencies in Sept of '09 I think. On my Early '09 with new style sensors on it it just says inactive, the light flashes on start up, goes to solid and a small triangle stays on the tach display.

Could you have the older style sensors then?

possibly, was sent one more possible solution today to try otherwise, we may be swapping out for new sensors to see if that fixes.

New sensors from Tire Rack fixed the TPMS problem, once installed and resetting was done, light went out within 5 minutes
