Thanks for thre link ,wonder what tires would fit and the offset I would need. I don't want to have too much stretch to the tires .

 

et25 with the 215/40/17 it sounds like.

Youll need the stretch and camber to fit em.

itll look similar to Revs car in that thread BUT at an inch bigger wheel itll be even tighter

 

Then don't try fitting 9's on a MINI Especially with an offset of 20...

Yup far easier to fit then 9's if you don't want stretch.

If it is the same offset, it does not matter 7.5" or 9", you will get to stretch the tire to get it fit in the wheel well. The wheel will stick out the same amount because of offset.

 

So, I will need the correct offset...... what # offset will allow me to run proper sized tires, like 215(225)/40(45)17?

If a 7.5 et30 pokes X amount, a 9 et30 would poke X+.75"

JPMM, for a 7.5 you're looking for 42-35 offset, ideally. Higher end if you want the wider tire.

 

the more reasonable size 17X7.5 rims have a different (yucky) finish???


It is the same color code, But may look different , since they are not the same size.

Nope, you're discussing the same topic. Width in terms of face offset and backspacing.

You just didn't take the different widths into account.

Probably not. the idea is you do not want the shoulder sticking out past the arches... Itll just look rediculous with a very low profile, but still sticking out... Probably a very crappy ride too

 

225/25.4=8.85", a 9" wheel measures 10", so a 225 is still going to have a slight stretch over a 9" wide wheel.

In other words, a 225/35 will work on a 17x9, but won't look as good as a 205/40 is going to in terms of stretch for fitment.

Oh, and in terms of ride: a stretched tire is going to be much stiffer than a standard-fitment tire due to how the sidewall is pulled away from where it "wants" to be.

 

It doesn't make THAT much of a difference. Especially since the tires that are generally used for stretch have soft sidewalls, so the stiffening of the sidewall is often welcomed on stretch setups. It'll hardly be any different than the stiffness of kumho summer performance tires or something.

 

Typically, 17x7s are used for 17" rims on MINIs. 17x8s would be stretching it a bit more. This thread might help with that: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...the-track.html. ET is 38-50mm, with most stock rims having an ET45. To me, if you go to a 17x9 rim, the ET factor kinda gets thrown out the door, as you are attempting to max-fill the tire wells. You would be risking tires and/or rims rubbing the black trim, as well as rubbing the struts/springs (whether stock or aftermarket).

Hmm... this guy is running 225/40/18s on his MINI: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...225-tires.html. However, they are mounted on 18x8s. If you are seriously considering 17x9s, call and check with the seller or rim manufacturer and find out what they say about them fitting a MINI.

 

To avoid any responsibility for things like rubbing on fenders, companies play it very conservative when it comes to claiming wheel fitment. You probably won't find anyone saying they have 17x9's on MINIs even though there are quite a few examples of it working. They play it safe and stick with 7's and 7.5's instead.

 

I would have to agree. The wheels are so snug underneath to begin with, the only area someone would notice a full fit would be the outer edge (hence the ET factor). Besides, I would prefer using 17x7s and using a set of lowering springs to bring it in roughly 1".
