Air Bag Light On !

Well, this last Monday I had an appointment at the Orlando Mini dealer to find out why my air bag light was staying on. After they made a check, I was told I had a bad "Seat Mat Sencer", that would have to be replaced in the passenger seat. O.K., now the price! The part: 892.49, Labor: 178.92, Shop Charges: 17.89, Sales Tax: 70.80, Please Pay this amount: 1160.10.
OWWWWWCH, that was a costly trip. Well, whatcha gunna do!, Pay It.

Sounds like a great idea for a young guy, I assume you all are!. But at my age, you just bite the bullet and "getter done". I read another thread on here
about getting a new fuel pump, that was scary also.

what kind of seats do you have in you car? im positive you can find them cheaper and install them yourself or have somebody install them for you. then all you need is a computer that can read the MINI codes. a BMW computer can do the trick. once a computer is found they can shut the light off and turn the light off and set the bags. thats what i did in mine.

They are two tone leather, black and gray. I already had the sencer installed, its funny you said ,buy a seat!, when the mini shop said $1,160 dollars I said to him, "I could probably buy a new seat for that price!.

im a bit confused. did your airbag go off in the seat? why would you need anew seat if all you needed was a sensor?

are these the seats you have?

This sencer in the passenger seat is the one that detects weight, if you put a package in the seat, this sencer tells the air bags that no passenger is their an not to go off. "Even sounds expensive".

it tell t not to go off??? thats odd i had no passenger in my seat when my right curtains and passenger seat bags went off and at that time my airbag light was on before they blew. weeks before they blew. does that mean they shouldn't have blown.

i would think that if the sensor doesnt detect anything or is faulty it WOULD go off if there was an accident. not knowing weather or not there was a passenger

The reason I got it fixed was that I went to the dealers and was looking at new Mini's, I asked the dealer, "how much will you give me on a trade", he took mine for a ride and said "that air bag light needs to be fixed", after its fixed we can talk!.

I was told that if no one is in the seat and the seat belt is not imployed, those air bags will not go off.

I'm having the same issue with the airbag light...sometimes if I position a 12 pack of soda just right the lights go out. I was just at the dealer and they told me $1000ish. My car is going to a body shop for a tail light and glove box replacement. I'm gonna inquire about the airbag pad. My safety inspection is coming up in May so I've gotta do something by then. I'm hoping the body shop will have a work around at the very least there labor rate is significantly less...my MCC has 105k miles on it and this may be our last year together (saving for a new one) I'd rather put that $1000 towards a new mini.

there is a TSB on the air bag sensor wiring harness under the pass seat being too short that they should replace for free.

Ty, I understand your wanting to put the thousand dollars tored a new Mini, but this was what I was looking to do with my Mini, but the dealer told me that they would tack off the thousand from my trade in value anyway. Plus, I wanted my wife to be safe in my Mini, at my age, she would be hard to replace!.
