True BRG?

So I'm in the market for my first MINI and am torn between PW and BRG. I hear that the BRG on the 2011s more closely resembles the traditional BRG. Is this true? I'm all about going 'classic' where I can, so that might sway me...

Courtesy of Wikipedia: British racing green or BRG, a colour similar to Brunswick green, hunter green, forest green or moss green (RAL 6005), takes its name from the green international motor racing colour of Great Britain. Although there is still some debate as to an exact hue for BRG, currently the term is used to denote a spectrum of deep, rich greens. 'British racing green' in motorsport terms meant only the colour green in general - its application to a specific range of shades has developed outside the sport

I've had two BRG MINIs and I never thought of the color as the truer BRG of European car colors of the past which I fell in love with. When the World Champion 50 JCW was unveiled to us at MINI UNITED @ Silverstone a couple of years ago, I'd died and gone to the promised land. To me, that is BRG! I do like th BRG Metallic II but I'm a little partial to it myself.

The WC50 was painted in a non-metallic green. I've heard that it was a multi-step paint process: The body was first painted black, and then the green was applied over the black.

The BRG2 looks more to me like my memory of British Racing Green than did the first MINI BRG, although darker. Also, of course, the Mini BRGs are both metallic, whereas "traditional" British Racing Green was not. You can check out my gallery for some shots of my Clubman in BRG2. It's not an easy color to photograph; in anything other than bright light it looks almost black.

It is as true a BRG as is available, but then what is a TRUE BRITISH RACING GREEN, who knows? You have to go back to 1900 with your color chips.

Not really. The finest examples of the color are the Lemans winning Jaquars of the 50s. It isn't called British "Racing" green for nothing.

I describe it as a very "dirty", or blackish green. Go find one in a museum with original paint, of course, to see what I mean. Ferrari red was a "dirty" color at the time, too, best described as blood red. The Brits did paint real well back then, some say the best, but colors were far from as vivid and varied as they are today. Paint has come a long, long way.

For me the original BRG that MINI used was Bavarian Racing Green. A nice color, but not a true BRG in my eye. The new BRG II looks a lot better to my eyes. I think both the BRG II & Pepper White have a classic look about them. The Pepper white is free & the BRG II is $500. I'd buy the PW.

One thing to keep in mind. Photos on computer monitors often look very different from what the colors look like in real life. If you can find a BRG II & look at it in person.

And that's also the BRG I remembered - and the BRG2, while a nice-looking color in direct light, is not that color. I would suggest to the OP that if you're really looking for a traditional look, go with the Pepper White.

This is (was) our PW Mini.....since the MGB was BRG I didn't want another green car...especially since the green on the Mini was not BRG....I think the PW is a great color on the Mini...we recently traded it for a Nightfire Red Clubman........oh excuse the fact that this picture depicts the PW with a two-tone white

When I first considered a MINI 5+ years ago I went in completely convinced I would go traditional and get BRG. When I actually went to a dealership to test drive and look at the cars, I was terribly disappointed in the BRG. To me it looked like a Hunter green, which is fine, but NOT what I think of as BRG. I had been driving an Infiniti J30, that was almost the exact same green so I didn't want to repeat. I ended up buying a PW/B and loved it. Last Friday night my beloved PW/B, El Kabong, was totaled. I had every intention of keeping him forever, and had no thought of a new MINI anytime soon. My husband, trying to cheer me up, took me MINI shopping the other day and I will say we both fell in love with the new BRG2, it has just a touch more yellow in it, so you can actually tell it is green from a distance and in cloudy, overcast weather.
I am down to 2 colors (BRG and Horizon Blue) so will hopefully be ordering in a few days.
Good luck with your choice!
Annette
