2 Questions from New Owner

Picked my new 2010 MINI Cooper last night. Yay - I love it.

1) It didn't come with floor mats. Where is the best place to get a good deal on a set?

2) I took it real easy on the gas pedal driving home last night, low revs, some coasting, and the computer says I averaged 44.5 mpg for the 20 mile trip from the dealer. Is that possible? Are these on-board computers accurate?

Thanks for any advice.

The dealer's mats are real nice, not that expensive, aaand the driver's side mat has Velcro discs on the back the keep it from scooting around. There are plugs in the carpet that the hook part of the Velcro screws into, so it matches the Velcro on the back of the mat.

I think the on board computer isn't that accurate when it comes to calculating MPG, it's best to calculate it by hand, when you fill up.

44.5 mpg is possible but the computer is optimistic. I averaged 38 during the breakin period using reformulated California gas.

I spent $35 for a set of 4 universal black mats at Pep Boys, made two simple cuts to fit around the throttle and dead pedal and haven't thought about them since.

My dealer threw in all-season mats on my 2010.

I have a MCS, so my gas mileage isn't quite as high as a justa, but after 6 mos. I'm averaging 30 mpg and that's with very enthusiastic driving and 2 track days.

The on-board computer in my MCS claims an average 38 mpg. Hand calculation reveals it's actually more like 35.

Floor mats

Take a look at the "floor liners" from Weather Tech...they are nice looking and keep any mud, snow, water, etc from reaching the carpet.

Thanks everyone for your input. The best deal I could find was a full set of four new MINI OEM mats delivered for $87 from Patrick BMW via eBay. I just ordered those.

I would have negotiated them into the sale.. since you just took it home see if you can negotiate a great deal on some from the dealer...
