Voice Phone Book

I just purchased a 2010 MCS and it has the comfort Bluetooth and USB/Ipod connection. I have a Iphone 4 and have paired it with the system. My Iphone contacts show up but I can not use Voice commands to access my contacts for a call out through the Mini system. It says my contact list is empty. I would like to use the system like I use the Iphone 4 (Hands Free) direct with my Bluetooth. Is this possible?

I tried to add a name on the voice dial for the first time the other day with the same results as you describe. I was never able to get it to add a name and number. My MINI us a 2009 and I have an iPhone 4 too.

Maybe someone here can tell us how to get around this??

I don't know a thing about electronics, but I just had a knotty problem with my phone and car come to a happy conclusion.

My brand new 2010 MCS wouldn't play the iPod from my iPhone 3G (which is laden with the 4G software). I tried a "Hard Restart" and now it works.

Press and hold simultaneously the home button and the power button until everything finally goes off. Then power it up again and cross your fingers.

Voice Dial "Catch 22"

OK I searched for other strings that have similar challenges. To answer gawannamini here are the most recent instructions

1) PUSH Voice Dial button on wheel...
2) "BEEP"
YOU - "SAVE Name" (you must say SAVE, not Store like the manual says to do)
3) MR BT - - "Say the name "
You
- -"......." (what ever name you want to save)
4) MR BT - - "Say the Name Again"
YOU - - "........" (again, say the name)
5) MR BT - - "Say the number"
YOU - - "###-###-####"
6) MR BT - - repeats "###-###-####"
MR BT - - "Continue"
YOU - - "SAVE"

The second part is my original question and i downloaded the PDF which is the same as the seperate book iI got with my new Mini

Operation by voice command requires a personal voice phonebook. Depending on the equipment, the entries are either transferred from the memory of your mobile phone or they must be entered independently. You cannot use voice commands to select numbers stored in the mobile phone, nor can you use voice commands to store numbers there.
This paragraph could not be more confusing.

Please note that there are TWO different Voice command systems possible in a MINI. Searching here would find this easily.

Non NAV cars:
There are twenty voice dial numbers available and these MUST be programed into the car verbally. It WILL NOT work with the contact/phone list in any phone. And depending on the phone there may be other problem with it such as if the phone number is in you contact/phone list it may not work at all. This is what happens with a Motorola E-185

Nav Cars:
Some phones will work and others will not. Many poeple have had no use of voice dial on their iPhone due to the way the iPhone works its contact/phone list. As for other phone such as BlackBerry's the voice dial function works perfectly, where the car connects to the phones contact/phone list and voice dials easily.

Also of note for people LG phones are notroius for not working well with any part of the MINI Bluetooth system.

More info on this can be found in this thread and many others.

Another VERY GOOD resource is the compatibility list kept up to date by nicknbecka. it is the most comprehensive data base for what phones work and their limitations with the MIN bluetooth system.

Thanks - I'll give it a try using SAVE instead of STORE and report back here.

11/2010 comes from page three of this MINI Connect PDF, your best bet is to check with a dealer and see if/when they'll have any information on ordering.

EDIT: I should probably mention that the PDF is from mini.com, not miniusa.com, so there's a possibility that date is not for the US market.
