Well, thats was quick...

Bought my '09 Laser blue MCS in mid-Oct 09, and sent it on its way today, with just shy of 47k miles on it. Great car, fun to drive and it did everything I wanted it to well. However, I was getting to the point, mileage-wise, that I needed to take a look at my options and see if I would trash any residual future value of the car by continuing to drive it, and also run the risk of incurring maintenance costs.

I made a call to my SA, Liz at Baron MINI in KC, and gave her the run down on my car. She checked with the powers that be and came back with a trade-in price that I thought sounded good, but prepared myself in case it was just an offer to get me in the door and then have them give me all the reasons why they needed to lower it. I dropped by with the car today, and after looking my car over, they gave me $500 MORE than they told me on the phone.

At same time, I took a stroll through the lot and found a similarly equipped 2010 MCS in Pepper White (roof and mirrors are body colored, which looks very sharp, imo) and negotiated what I thought was a fair price. They then gave me an additional $500 "customer loyalty" discount (I guess buying two new MCS's in 9 months helps make one popular with the dealership!), so I was able to do a deal with them that was $1000 better than I expected. A big "thanks!" to Liz Higham and the staff at Baron MINI, they have been nothing short of excellent to deal with and I heartily recommend them.

I pick the new car up tomorrow.

How do you get so many miles? Leave it on a dyno overnight?

4700 miles a month? That's some driving, so I can see why you need to think about yearly tradeins. Congrats on making a good deal.

47k in 10 months (about 2 times of NYC limousine driver's average)!!

Driving 6 days a week this is about 183 miles/day.

The reason for all the miles is that I live in KC and am restricted from flying for medical reasons due to a car accident some years ago. My main client's HQ's is in Boston, and I typically go out there at least once a month. I've also driven to Boston from KC via San Diego once, now *that* was a serious road trip. lol The MCS is my choice for a company car.

I picked up the new one today, pretty much just like the last one except its a different color. The one difference I think I may have spotted so far is that my iTouch charges with the bluetooth/iPod adapter. I picked it up with ten miles on it, and have a whopping 35 on it so far. My '09 had 4 miles on it when I picked it up and at the end of the first day I had it, it had 950miles on it. Who knows, maybe this one will last longer. lol

Baron really does rock. I hear all the horror stories here of other dealerships and just really haven't had a single problem with anything Baron's done. Up front folks, very nice new digs they got (they used to be in the basement of the BMW dealership) and great service folks. Congrats on the new PW.

Congrats on the new ride!

I have to add my positive comments about Baron, I've bought 2 cars from them and both times the exerience was completely friendly, competent and easy. I also have had very good service in the repairs shop......

Liz has been there a long time, she was my SA when I bought mine, granted I only spoke to her once prior to meeting her when I picked up my car, but she made sure my wife and I were extremely happy before we left. And BARON is a great dealership, I drove down from Iowa, and I will still go to Baron over Omaha even though Omaha is half the distance.

By the way, I am hosting a wrenching party at my house tomorrow for a local car club (KC Wrenching Society, go to kcws.org if you want to check out the website) that I belong to. Its primarily a Porsche oriented club but I'd love to get more MINI's involved locally. This is a completely NON-commercial gathering of car enthusiasts, no one will be trying to sell anything to anyone, we just like to hang out and have fun.

Shoot me a PM if you'd be interested in coming out, but the basic schedule is as follows:

10am: show up at my house, we are going to have about ten or twelve Porsches there working on various things. BTW, I have a lift in my garage if you need to do any under car service.

11:30am We'll be firing up the grill. We've had some epic food at previous wrenching sessions as one of our members has done memphis style ribs, jambalya, home made bread pudding etc, so who knows. Plenty of beer and liquid refreshment will be on hand (but we do take a seriously dim view of indulging if you are going to be driving, so be warned on that).

1:00pm ish: Wrap up the wrenching and then we are going to cruise to Heartland Park for the vintage races. We'll be cruising out there by way of Lake Clinton, and again, we've been accused of having some rather epic cruises, so again, be warned. We tend to go to the far side of "spirited driving", and a bunch of us have a pretty serious track habit.

3:00pm Arrive at HPT and take in the races until 5ish

Show up for as much or as little as you'd like. We have a great group of folks and are very friendly towards car enthusiasts, regardless of make. We are definitely not cork sniffers, we tend to dive in and get dirty working on the cars.

No on the option credit, as I purchased the vehicle outright, the option credit is apparently only for people who finance through MINI. My car already came equipped with the Sport package, and I wasn't interested in either the sunroof or auto tranny, so I'm not out anything. I am very happy with the the deal I got.

Then I would have financed it, and paid it off first month. If it had any of the option credits.
