I went here .. http://www.minimania.com/web/SCatago...0/ArticleV.cfm

I see some engine numbers starting with BHM, but not the 1667 portion. Maybe the author of the MiniMania article could help ...

Your engine is a Gold seal factory reconditioned replacement, back in the days, we could order either a Silver or Gold seal reconditioned engine, from the dealers or from Unipart themselves, I have no further info for you regarding the engines CC, without further info from yourself, however I will be able to tell you more if you give me the crankshaft number which can be found between the journals, this should be just 1 digit difference from the engine No itself.

Also if your engine has no pressed steel plates at the rear of the engine covering the tappet and pushrod galleries, then it is most likely a 1275, this can be further identified by twin core plugs side by side at the flywheel end of the engine block, as all other mini engines had just 1 single core plug in this position.

I've had to dig out my very old mini books, and recall a lot of happy memories from my classic mini days, I hope I can assist you further.

Czar.

If you could post up photo's of the engine, front face, rear face, flywheel end, crank pulley end and the complete engine tag No, then I will do my best to identify your engine.

My 67 Mini had a Gold Seal motor in it, a 1380 CC, you don't happen to be the new owner do you?

Wow I just noticed that I need to change my sig.

If you are the new owner, my husband told me you had problems with the shifting. The trick that I found was to just to shift it slow and very deliberate, especially when going from 2nd to 3rd (have to shift to the middle then wave to the left). Downshifting from 4th to 3rd can also be tricky. It took me awhile to get used to it but when I started shifting it like it was an old car and not a newer stick, things improved dramatically. I just wanted to let you know in case you were considering replacing or fixing the tranny. Joe my husband also had a hell of a time shifting the beast. It's like it is notchy and once you find the pattern it's really easy to make her behave. Maybe it's just a lady's touch. If you are the new owner, I hope you are enjoying her, that is a great Mini. Oh PLEASE don't trash that tranny either if you decide you have no choice but to rebuild, it is a 68 Cooper S tranny. Same with the seats and the brakes, those are all out of the same 68 Cooper S.
