Took the mini for a little test drive

Well, I took a little joy ride to test them out. Apparently I need to cut maybe an inch off the rear fenders.

It's not the best video (Shot on my blackberry) and my assistant didn't quite get the concept of try to get it from a drivers angle. It ended up being more of a bumpy, wobbly view slightly obstructed by the furry dice in my mirror. haha.

But either way, you can at least get a VERY rough idea of how much fun I have every day on my back roads.

Keep in mind I was not going ***** to the wall on this run. I was testing the flares for rubbing. So the NEXT video will hopefully be a more ***** to the wall run. :D and maybe a better video camera.

Yeah, a lot of voyeurs that read the posts but frequently not many comments. I watched your video ... man you need a quick shift kit. I installed a KAD quick shift for my rod change and it's _so_ much better than stock - solid quick short shifts. It really changes the driving experience.

Keep the posts coming, even if no one's posting replies. People still read them.

I'm thinking about mounting a camera in my mini so I can take some video of the fun I'm having in my classic. We're getting highs around 110 DegF in Phoenix so I can't drive it all the time, but I still drive it. Later this summer I'm buying some Corbeau A4 seats and will be building a harness bar. I'll be mounting a small digital video camera to that when it's all done.

Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff, I DO have a KAD quickshift. :D I love it as well. The front bushing on my rod box is GONE, so the shifts are still a little sloppy. But that last run wasn't even a fast run. It was strictly to take some hard corners and test out the new Sportspack flares.

Now, THIS run.. well... It was a little more spirited.

Oh, and I set up a passenger seat camera rig.

And it's a LOT more stable.

Now THAT looked like a fun ride ... and a great set of twisty roads

I'm picking up a classic this month and this video just makes me more anxious.

ya. i saw your other post over at mmania.
i've always wondered what the comparison would be/feel like between the 998 and a 1275. but it looks like she pulls quite nicely.

you've got a side exit exhaust on it? any particular reason why? or just because?
i keep drooling over a big vtec AWD conversion which would probably need a side exhaust. but i could buy two more cars for what that would cost me

Haha. Vtec is not cheap. That's a fact.

Yeah, I've got side exit. I was gonna change it, but the side exit allows me to tuck it up a little tighter to the body, it allows me to be bias on certain HUGE speed bumps in my area, and I just like the way it looks clean for right now. Maybe when the 1380 gets put in I'll change it up (I'll have to go with a larger exhaust) but I like it.

Be careful on those 1.5 lane roads... All it takes is one car backing out of a driveway and...

If you really want to go *****-to-the-walls, attend a track day. Then you'll have real bragging rights.

Car sounds great though - what's she running under the bonnet? Wish MY classic had that kind of get-up-and-go.

I'm actually keeping my foot out of the throttle a bit on these runs. There's not to many people out there, and with the construction on both ends, traffic is very limited lately.

I DO intend on attending a track day. Just gotta get to that point. And the car's suspension isn't all the way there yet (Still gotta get my gaz shocks)

Every time I make one of these runs I wear full clothing and my helmet.

As for what's under the bonnet, it's just a little 998. :D

998cc A+
RC40 with custom piping
LCB header
Ported and polished head
Copper head gasket
silver plugs and 8mm wires.
And a LOT of tuning on the single HS4 carby.

Oh... and a LOT of bracing. haha. I have 6 engine steadies. 4 Trans mounted, 2 block mounted.

My full build thread can be seen here.

"Just" a 998... Yeeeeeeeeah, right.

When Fiona's motor finally gives up the ghost, I plan to use one of MiniMania's bored and stroked 1380CC super-Cooper engines as a swap. I'd toyed with considering a VTEC, but I like the idea of actually keeping a true A-series engine in the car (even if it's heavily modified). For now, I satisfy myself with the fact that my car, while slow, is still a blast in twisties, and makes most people who pass me smile and wave.

One day...

Suspension is still a work in progress. It comes together as my paychecks do.

I've got SRacer Hi-Lo's and SRacer Red coils. I'm getting GAZ adjustable lowered dampers, and fully adjustable components like upper and lower control arms. I'm just waiting for the paychecks to come. haha.
