Brand New MCS Odd whistle/squeak

Hey everyone!

I just picked up my 2010 MCS last friday night. I have about 400 miles on it so far because I took a drive down to richmond from the DC area last weekend.

I have noticed an odd whistle or possibly squeak sound that comes when im driving 30-40 mph under light load. I don't know if its a brake issue, a turbo noise or maybe a body panel whistle. It's sort of freaking me out since I just bought the thing. I am planning on finding some time to take it to the dealer, but I work and there service hours are not the most convenient.

I sort of think its a brake issue, because I have been trying to apply the breaks for a second when it happens and it seems to disappear. The issue I have is its only in the mph range. Does anyone have any clue what it could be? Or should I just take it in and have them check it out?

Thanks alot! I love the MINI so far, I just don't want any odd sounds!

Chuck

That's the "your not driving me hard enough warning signal"

No its definitely not the turbo getting rid of excess boost.

I really think it might be a brake pad rubbing, but it just seems odd it only happens some of the time.

Its called back roads during rush hour traffic, with everyone else jamming up the area trying to escape the highways as well.

That too bad, I'm usually able to find another route even if it is the long way

Wait until a second noise appears, then you'll have an even whistle
instead of an odd one.

ZING!

I can't wait till I am away from DC. Well first off, I can't wait till I get my MINI, then I can't wait till I am away from this traffic. There is really nowhere fun to drive around here.

I'm having this same issue. It whistles at idle but not when I get on it and get moving. Also, as soon as I put on the brakes it gets much more subdued though not totally gone. This morning is the first time I have ever heard it. Not sure what could be doing this as I have never heard of anyone else's besides yours doing it.

I have an 07 MCS, for reference.

Mine happens after I have been driving for a few minutes. Its definitely a brake issue. When it starts if I tap the brakes it stops. I guess I need to find some time to hit the dealer.

Could it maybe be the engine cooling down. Mine does it alot in hot weather and in stop and go traffic. It also may do it after I park the car.

Yup, passport MINI in Alexandria VA sells 100+ cars a month so they have tons of production slots. Ordered on the 10th, went into production 2 days later. Picked it up on the 4th of june. About 3.5 weeks!

I would host the pic so you don't have to click the link but photobucket is currently being sloooooooooooooooowwwwww. But anyway its below.

I want my license plate same place as yours *jealous now*

Kinda miss our Alfa 156 that had a whistle noise after some mins driving it... it appeared to be the Hand brake/Emergency Brake that was rubbing on... (guess what kind of fun it was to pull it to remove the noise)
