You can do it two ways - set the shuffle up to... well... shuffle and when you move to the next track it should randomize. You can also set it up to play in sequential order, and click "Random" (may be abbreviated RND, can't remember).

That works fine on my regular iPod, so I would imagine it works similarly on a Shuffle. Perhaps someone with a shuffle can chime in as well.

Hi,

My ipod is a classic ipod, not the shuffle one. The so called "Y Cable", which i have, controls totally the ipod (in the menu of the car). the ipod is CONNECTED and Locked. So i wonder if in the car there is a option for "ramdom".I can´t find it :(.
I have a 2009 cooper with navigation.

Thanks for help!

jaydub in not talking about you having a "Shuffle Style iPod" he is talking abaouat putting you classic in the shuffle (or if you prefer the random) mode.

And sometimes, for me, it stays in RND mode between using the car and sometimes it doesn't and I have to press RND every time.
But it is as simple as the above messages say it is.

If you keep track of when it stay in RND and when it does not you will probably find that if you are out of the car less than 15-30 minutes then it will stay in RND but if you are out of the car for more than 30 mintues it will not stay. This is how it normally works as the cars computers go to sleep after approximately 30 minutes.

Is not that simple, because I do not have a RND button...
I have navigation...
I found out how to do it accidentally: I have to do a click over the song that is playing and a new menu appears with the RND option.
(sorry for the bad English )

Did anyone ever sort this out? I finally hooked up my ipod. It's now installed in the bowels of the center panel so it's more or less permanent. Pressing shuffle on the ipod screen is not an option anymore without five or six torx screws.

I too have navigation and there are no options for RND or random or shuffle. Only playlist, song, artist, album.

Very frustrating - especially since I tend to have collections of albums and playing all songs in alpha order is "sort of random" but many artists have 3-4 copies of the song on the ipod because they're from different albums.

TIA!

Hi!

it´s simple:
1-start to play a song in any playlist
2-press again the joystick in that song
3-should appear a new menu
4-go to the bottom of that menu
5-should appear the random option: press the joystick over it
6-hope it works!!!
(sorry for the bad english)

Thanks for the tip - I wonder if the problem I have is that I have no playlists on this ipod. I'll try this from within an artist list. But sounds like I'll have to make some playlists which sucks as I have to take the ipod out of the car :(

Please try without creating playlist I Think that should work...
Start to play a song and press the joystick in that song and the menu with the random option should appear...
