Maggie has a new trick!!

Maggie is my 10R56 JCW and she has shown me a new trick this week with her HK radio system. I have the factory installed iPod connector, which is under the center stack, and use my iTouch as the primary source. Since I got Maggie in November 09, the radio would remember the state it was left at, usually on the iPod setting. Obviously, if the Touch wasn't there, the system would dump back to radio. Starting this week, Maggie's new trick was to start in radio, regardless if the Touch is connected or not. After selecting iPod, periodically the system would dump back to radio. As I was playing with the system trying to figure out WTF, eh?, with the Touch connected and system off, powering it out would briefly ( >1 sec) show the iPod mode then dump out to radio. I was thinking that the BMW iPod Y-cables were causing the problem, however, the Touch sits in the right cup holder and barely moves, if at all. Also, while driving, this behavior would occur regardless of the condition of the road. Over the week, this condition continued until a new variation of the trick where the system would come on but not show a source and not play anything. I could try to change between radio and iPod without result. Only after cycling power via the power button to the radio a couple of times did it start to function properly. This situation only happened once. Finally, the trick has evolved to where the system would not start in iPod mode and would occasionally dump out to radio. I cannot pinpoint this condition to any particular driving situation. My last mod was the OneTouch Sunroof mod that I did about a month ago and it went fine as I used the Posi-Tap connectors instead of soldering it in.

I hope that ya'll can help me sort this out and also reassure me that my JCW is neither possessed nor about to melt down.

Cheers!!

Poppa Bear,

Do you have NAV and/or Comfort Access in your car?

After reading the first sentence, I was thinking that the Key fob may be to blame as on my 08 if I use one fob it does one set up with the stereo system and if I use the other fob the settings are different. But as I read on it seems like more than just key fob settings.

I will have to agree with the posters above about the gremlins.

But try this. Disconnect the battery for a minimum of 30 Minutes. Yes you will have to completely reset all your settings but this will clear all the memory of the CCC (Central Car Computer) and the other on board computers, some of which may be causing your problem if there is a "byte" of data corrupted.

Thanks, fellas, with the suggestions. No, I don't have the NAV or Comfort Access and I'll look into resetting the car.

Cheers!!

I believe I may be having somewhat the same issue. I have a 2010 with the HK system.

My Itouch 1st Gen. will dump to the radio for no reason. I turn it back on, it plays for a while and dumps again. there is NO rhyme or reason to it. I jiggled the cables and it is NOT the cables. some days it works fine others it loses the connection.

WEIRD!!

So I'm not the only one!! My factory installed iPod connection is under the center stack by the cup holders on the right side. Not exactly sure why it was installed there as it is derned inconvenient having the 2nd gen iTouch sit in the right cupholder. I'm thinking of moving the connection into the "secret" compartment but I'm not sure if the connector's cable is long enough. I'll try the battery test this weekend and let ya'll know how it goes.

Cheers!!
