Looking for info on dash panel removal

Hi all. Just got my 2010 Clubman S. It has the iPod integration via the "MINI Y-Cable". But the cable is short, and I have to leave the iPod in the open compartment next to the AUX jacks. I'd like to get an extender cable and route it up to the secret compartment, to keep the iPod hidden from sight.

I've looked around quite a bit in this forum for info on removing whatever panels I'd need to remove to accomplish this, but haven't yet found any. Can anyone tell me how to remove the panels or point me toward any existing threads? Thanks!

Many of us simply drop the iPod into the little cargo net compartment on the passenger side of the tunnel. The (short) cable is the perfect link for this, and it's essentially out of sight. If that's not quite stealthy enough, you could cut a little piece of black cloth and put it between the iPod and netting, and it would completely disappear.

LOL thats almost exactly what I did...When I found out my Ipod 3gs wouldnt charge I remembered that I had an ipod touch 1st gen just sitting in a box.. I put it in the netting on the car but was concerned that people might see it since it was in a clear case and the metal showed through... So for $1.75 I bought a black felt dice pouch from my local gaming store that fit the ipod perfectly. So perfectly that its darn near invisible in the car now.

Do all the cars off the assembly line have that mesh pouch thing on the passenger side or ONLY the ones with an ipod adapter? If so that might make it easier to spot someone for theft purposes....

Thanks for the video link, rkw. That looks like a lot of work! Hopefully I can just pull off some trim panels on the passenger side, and not have to actually pull off the whole dash & speedo.

Kevin & Kodan: great idea about the mesh pocket. I didn't even know there was one there. I'll stash my iPod there until I have a chance to check out removing the panels to see if I can put it in the secret compartment.

I am not finding it right now but someone here did a complete write up on how to move the USB to the secret compartment. Than may help you as it did not require removing all of the dash only some little parts of it.

Do so me searching here in the Audio & NAV section and in the How To seciton under modifications. It may have been moved.

Oh yeah! That's exactly it. Looks like I still have to do a lot of panel removing, but it'll be worth it. Thanks schatzy!

Well in reality it is the side panel of the center console, cubby hole parts in console, and the secret compartment, and the trim just below the secret compartment. Only about 15 screws if I remember correctly.

But it is really rather easy just time consuming.

After the many times I have done it I can probably get it all apart in about 10 minutes.

But removing the passenger side A-Pillar can make it a lot easier to get the passenger side vent off so that taking the secret compartment and trim below it off a lot easier.

yeah, getting that passenger vent off is a problem but doable without removing the A-Piller....but I scratched mine doing it.
