CLUTCH MASTERS FITMENT PROBLEM

hi all
I have been fitting my mates new fidanza flywheel and clutch masters clutch to an 06 plate cooper and having great difficulty!!!

I am finding that the plate in which the release bearing sits in is touching the clutch before the bearing causing a grinding noise when placing my foot right down on the clutch. I used the original mini bearing not the one supplied with the clutch masters kit. the reason being that the clutch masters one does not appear to fit in the fork plate correctly.

However it does appear the prevent the fork plate from touching the clutch plate when offering it up to the clutch but how does it sit in the fork plate correctly???

Any help very much appreciated

many thanks

phil

According to fidanza, the flywheel will not fit on R50s after 7/2004 build date. Can you confirm that it does in fact fit? Actually, CM, SPEC and Fidanza all stopped making flywheels after the getrag change in 07/2004.

I have an 06 Cooper and a clutchmasters aluminum flywheel with spec 2 clutch. The flywheel fits, but the clutch supplied by clutchmasters DOES NOT FIT.

My shop has to order a new clutch by sending clutchmasters the specs required, they didn't even seem to know what clutch to give my shop (that was 2009 Sep)

I have both stock flywheels, the one from Midland (02-04) and the one from the Getrag 5 speed (05-06), they are not the same. They have the same overall diameter, same starter ring, the disc surface is the same diameter BUT the thickness of the flywheels is different, the 02-04 is thinner. So no, the Fidanza for the 02-04 r50 will not fit later R50s, or to say it better everything will bolt, and it's all down to the input shaft length and design that's the problem.

Since you have both, can you positively confirm that neither flywheels for the r50 are twin mass. They are both solid correct?

So I need a sprung hub clutch.

Clutch Masters now makes a clutch for both:

before 7/2004: 03-052-HD00
Post 7/2004 : 03-056-HD00

Yes, i confirm both are single mass, and almost same weight, just the 05-06 Getrag flywheel is higher than the 02-04.

I really don't see the reason to use such a clutch. The OEM has springs so it is ok for use with any single mass flywheel, and it didnt have the slightest problem with 128whp and 110lb/ft wtq on mine.

Thanks, even realoem, lists the r50s as having a "twin-mass" flywheel.

Much confusion over a simple part. I am going with the CM clutch only because I can get it cheaper than OEM. I am not getting the stage 2 or 3 (fx200 or fx300) I am staying with the fx100 which is an oem style organic disc. (no kevlar)

So it's normal you have a Fidanza, it fits 02-04 models. To be more precise, models built up to 07/2004.

Several months ago I did some comprehensive research on the Getrag Ford 5- speeds. I couldn't find any makers with an off the shelf flywheel for the IB5 transmission (Ford or MINI). FWIW,on some of the Ford forums they mention machining 4-5 pounds off the stock 19# flywheels. Sent you a PM
