Restoring a genuine MK1
Restoring a genuine MK1
My mini was forced upon me in trade for some labor many years ago. I stuffed it a corner with many boxes of parts. Mostly disassembled with baggies of neatly tagged items so someone was kind. Three years ago I decided to take a closer look at the car. I found it to be a never re-shelled 1964 Morris Cooper S. 1071cc. Oh crap I thought to myself, it had to one of them. A tall order to fill but this car will be brought to life again in the next several years. Wish me luck and you can check it out at,

Yes it is a rusty old bird.
Most of the decay is on the floor and sills.
M-Machine in the UK makes an excellent complete floor pan with attached sills so this is what I'll use. At a major cost of about 1800.00 it's the only way to fly. Front panel, roof gutters and rear pan are salvageable but we'll see. The previous owner collected NOS doors and boot lid so I'm lucky there.
Thanks Scott

Way, way back in the day I had a '62 Cooper S 1070 and it was a sweet car - the 1070 motors really rev and make good power - mine had the twin carb setup.
Even then they had rust issues, I wound up replacing the floors from the seats forward on mine, and previous to that I'd replaced the whole left side of the car with one from another wrecked shell, due to accident damage.
I onl have a few pic of the car after I fixed it up and just after I moved from Kansas to Colorado, and yes, of course I drove it out there! I'll try to remember to post them on Monday, they're on my work computer.....
Good luck with your project!

Your one lucky chap to find a rear cooper S and with all the Red/Grey/Gold brocade interior you need to get John Parnells Bible

Thanks MK1Leg
Parnells' book has got me this far. Without it I certainly would have misled.
I'm looking forward to his new book for more valued information. Origiallity is my only concern. Patina is somewhat to be expected. Thanks for the kind words.

Hello Mk1leg
How can it get any better than meeting people like yourself. I'm very close to ordering the complete floor section from M-Machine. I'm not a rich man by any means, but the panel is the best that money can buy.
A hard item to find would be the proper heal pad. In any case thanks for the interest and the links.
Lets keep it touch via e-mail if you could possible PM it.
Best regards Scott
