Will it Void Warrenty?

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking about adding ALTA's Cold Air Intake and Turbo Inlet Hardpipe as my first engine mods, but does anyone know if this will void warrenty? I have been told that it varies by dealership....I bought my JCW from Morristown MINI, I'm just wondering if anyone knows what will void the warrenty at their dealership.....i'd appreciate any input, advice or suggestions....Thanks

I would ask the dealerships...usually Re-Inforcement Plates (Strut Plates), Intake, and Exhaust would be alright and everything else is no.

I just dropped an $27.99 Alta Drop In Filter in the R56 MCS and a $17.99 into the R52 MCS...Alta currently has a clearance sale on these items.

Depends on your dealer. Mine doesnt seem to care my car is even dropped, let alone w a giant open M7 intake on it lol. Granted I havent had any problems right there. The Forge blow-off spacer doesnt really concern them either. Now the UniChip... thatll never see the dealer lol

I was also under the impression that Morristown was one of the coolest dealers as far as aftermarket goes... but who knows

I took my '05 with tune and pulley into Morristown for regular maint, and some non-related repair stuff (25k service, clock fix, window leak), and they didn't give me a hard time. I'm not sure if would have been the same story if i had come in with a seized supercharger. I imagine it gets sticky if they need to get warranty work covered by BMW for stuff that could be caused by your mods.

My dealer has also been very good about MINI's with mods. If they were to tell me something was not covered by warranty because of a mod I might not be happy, but I would understand. I'm long out of waranty now so it's a non-issue for me. When one mods their car they do run the real risk of having warranty denied. It's been OK for me, but YMMV.

Thanks guys, I e-mailed my dealer this morning, so i'm just waiting to see what they say. Either way I plan on doing the mods, I just wanted to be aware of what could happen.

Asking your dealer up front is the best way.

Intake and Cat-Back are OK..........

The two dealers I've dealt with said intake and cat-back are ok. No to an intercooler, and I've asked several times.

Ritchie,

Read up on the DoS CAI in NAM...they also have a group buy...

I'm modding the R52 first before I work on the R56.

Thanks Inimini, and thanks for everyone's input. I am still waiting on my dealership's response. I had a chance to speak with Jarid over at ALTA today and ended up ordering the CAI and hardpipe. I'll let everyone know how it goes. Thanks again!

I've talked with the owner about this more than once. He owns dealerships in CA and has an extensive aftermarket operation at the dealers out there. He said no car is sold in CA "stock". He's planning the same for the MINI dealer. That said, I believe our dealership will be very tolerant of modded cars. That's just my opinion, of course. I don't represent the dealer in any way.

Morristown MINI responded and told me this...."While many people modify their MINI with intakes and downpipes, if you have any drivability issues, our warranty administrator will not approve warranty service due to aftermarket parts."....that being said....has anyone had any issues with the Alta intake or inlet hardpipe?

I have a full K&N bright red typhoon system in my car. My car has been in service mode at my dealership so it's quite obvious. I've had things taken care of for me under good will.. nothing that really had to do with drivability unless you consider leaks part of that. Or wheel bearings going bad before warranty, stuff like that.
