Any idea when 2010 NAV dvd will be released?

Anyone know when the 2010 dvd nav disc will be released for the Gen 2 minis? They usually release 2 discs a year and I was all set to buy the 2009.2 disc, but it never came out. According to the navteq website they are still selling the 2009.1 disc.

I'm badly due for an update as I still have the 2007.2 disc. It sucks cause they are so many new roads in Northern VA that aren't on my disc.

Does anyone have any info?

How much are they anyways?

I don't know when they're coming out, but am interested in knowing this too.

Thanks

$200

That seems to be what Navteq charges for all cars. I guess its about time for me to update my 2007 disk as well. However, I'm not aware of that many new roads in N. California. We don't seem to be able to afford to fix the old ones, much less build new ones.

This is the response from navteq

Hello James,

Thank you for contacting NAVTEQ.

It will be up to Mini Cooper as to when they will do another update for their car. We do provide the raw map data to Mini Cooper but the manufacturer of the system are the ones who make the disc for the update.

If you need additional assistance, please send us your feedback by replying to this email or by speaking with one of our agents at the number provided below, Monday through Friday.

Kind regards,

Remember, new roads may take a few years before they appear in the map data.

Roads already show up in Navteq. In fact there are roads listed that aren't even done yet.

Agreed. I've seen a couple of news items on that:

1) Nav system (not sure which one) showing someone's driveway as a through road. They are filing a lawsuit.

2) Nav system (not sure which one) put folks onto a minor road ("shortest route") that is usually snowed in in the winter. They got stuck for two days...fortunately they had food and enough fuel for some heat.

I think my point was, you cannot trust the data 100%. Do not expect a new disk to be any "better" than the old one.

O.k. sure the nav data is a risk but say you just want to take advantage of the traffic management that the SatNav provides?...

I have the 2009.1 disc and also live in Northern Virginia. AS soon as we got here last summer, we realized just how fast this part of Loudoun County was growing. So I am also hoping BMW/MINI will make up their minds soon and release a new version of the North America Professional Satellite Navigation Disc (spelled out to facilitate searches on this topic).

I can tell you that it is really BMW that has to make the release of the new disc. MINI vehicles use the same disc. Sure the disc is customized somewhat but the map data is released to work with any MKIV system (read our SatNav systems in the Gen2 MINIs).

In any case, if you have a chance and want to help, become a member of Navteq's website and submit corrections. " They say" that those submissions are used to improve the maps for the next release.

Navteq already released the next version of their Professional Map series for Europe. This one by the way is now large enough to fit on a Dual Layer DVD.

I wonder why it's taking so long to get the 2010 version for the USA/Canada? Perhaps they are really tweaking the maps to look better.
Or maybe the delay is because a major firmware improvement is on the horizon...

Sure hope so.

Normally they wont release a new version until all of the old ones are sold

That doesn't make sense. Where is your information from? DVD's are such an easily produced, just-in-time manufacturing item that there's no need to stockpile an inventory that would take a long time to sell off.

You could contact them and ask. The more people who contact them about it, the more likely they will put resources into doing it.

Would you mind asking your friend who is producing the NAV discs now? According to Navteq's website, they no longer supply or sell BMW/MINI NAV DVDs.

The new supplier is TeleAtlas. There is discussion about it on the Xoutpost navigation forum: http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...n-goodbye.html. The prospects for updated maps don't look good there.

Thanks!
i had checked with TeleAtlas' website, and they only have 2003 and 2004 listed. I'll have to speak with our TeleAtlas sales rep about that then.

Wow, what a bummer. I've been waiting to update my map for a while. I still have the 2007.2 disc. I hope this gets sorted out soon, there are so many new roads where I live.

There are reports in the BMW forums that TeleAtlas just released 2010 map discs in the MKIII/MKIV "high" version also used by 1st gen MINI.

The link at TeleAtlas sends you to http://store.minigpsmaps.com/ which seems to be part of MINIUSA.com.

The DVD is for sale there, but I can't find any info as to the date it was updated.
