Navigation & Audio Any idea when 2010 NAV dvd will be released?
I've taken some photos, but Network Solutions did some maintenance yesterday and broke ftp for many of web hosting accounts, including mine. I'll post them when I can ftp again.
One new thing I noticed is there are more route preference options than there were on my 2007 DVD. One of the most interesting is "Avoid highways". Others are: fast, short, dynamic route (whatever that is), and avoid toll roads. IIRC, only fast, or short were available in 2007.

Hopefully you can take advantage of Dynamic Routing. I use this almost exclusively. This allows the traffic management info to be used so that you get re routed if traffic situation will slow you down. Not always accurate but this has "gotten me out of a jam" many times.
Hopefully you can combine the two onto a single DL disc. Or at least be able to make your own "mix discs"
I'd much rather have all the states on one disc than have canada. I don't need canada roads. I'll bet there are more people mid country that'll have to switch than people who cross the border often.

True, my logic says that it could be done considering the space saved off the total coming from the fact that they share some states and canada. Although a DL has ~1.3g less than two completely full standard dvd5s I doubt they are both using all 4.9g. Anyone had a chance to look at the disc contents yet? My car just arrived so I assume(hope) that it came with the 2010 discs but it'll be at least a month before I get back.
Hey mastawyrm, i ordered while overseas through pentagoncarsales. The DVD map disc was an after delivery buy. Or did you order from a state side dealer? If so, then you should get the disc with the sat nav option.
Also, not sure if this applies for 2010 tax year, but we were able to use sales tax paid as itemized deduction on our 2009 tax return. Although we did not pay sales tax overseas, we did pay a sales and use tax as soon as we registered the vehicle in The USA. Just some tips for you to file away.
Thank you for your dedication and service!

Except for the fact there are more digitized roads in the TeleAtlas maps, I don't see any difference between 2007 and 2010 displays so far.
I don't recall the perspective view on the map. People were complaining about the NAV not having a perspective view, and how the Garmins were so much better because of that view.
The crosshairs with the ability to pan around on the map was definitely not on the 2007 DVD.
Did it have the icons in the upper right?

What version of 2007 map did you have? I have the 2007.2 single disc.

Mine had all of those features previously too. I have a later model 2007 with the 2007.2 DVD. If yours was an early 2007 it may have had an older DVD with not as many options possibly. MINI is really good about putting in updates they see could help mid-year. Yours may not have these other options added later in 2007 either:

The new one that came out a few weeks ago is a 2010.Kevin
Kevin
Happens to me too... So i think MINI should let us know if there is going to be a 2010.2
because there are a couple corrections I sent in that are not in the new map disc and that could be true for many people out there. Also, I think they could put out a firmware or software upgrade. Maybe a color change option and/or british voice option :-)

From this thread, it appears that the current DVD came out in April.
Posted 03-17-2010, 04:46 PM: If that is true, I doubt there will be an update very soon.

New 2010 SATNAV and possible HOV awareness?
This is almost a tangent on this thread but I think it's relevant to the new MAPS....
Previously, the SATNAV knew not to send me on HWY66 eastbound after the DC beltway because....(I assumed)...it knew that the highway has all lanes marked HOV2 during the morning rush. Well, I decided to let My trusty SATNAV guide me as I am not feeling 100% today. I skipped getting on 495S (the outerloop of the beltway).
It's no excuse, but I totally missed the fact that I was passing the beltway on hwy66 when I see the lights flashing in an unmarked police car and guess what?...I get pulled over for HOV violation.
YIKES! So I was honest with the cops and said "I just changed the disc on my GPS and it never did this before, routing me into an HOV+ road" ...etc... I get the fine, no loss in points, but that was definitely unexpected bill for $125. And the Cop says, "Hey, we are out here every day" to which I reply, "See, and you have never seen me come out this way until now because I let the NAV guide me!!" We both chuckle, he gives my MINI an up and down double take, (like saying, why cut you some slack when you drive a car like that), and that's that. Darn.
So besides the fact that I should have known better, I have this question for the SATNAV gurus out there:
Does the system, or did it before, know to not route you into HOV traffic without asking first? I never got asked before, but somehow the 2009.1 Maps never put me into that situation (where all lanes of the HWY are HOV). I am not counting the situation where only the outer most left lane is HOV.
I have been driving this route for 7 months on the 2009.1 SATNAV DVD Professional. Sure I know my way, but I still program the dynamic route so that if "traffic disruptions" occur, I get the alert and rerouted. [That's nice, when you are listening to Slacker Radio
or the iPod function on your iPhone].
Did we lose that feature of HOV avoidance with the 2010 Maps? Perhaps, it was just fate that I had never been routed into the HOV before, but today was the fateful day.
O.k., back to lunch and nursing my sore throat....and pride....and pocket book.
Summary
1)Does MINI SATNAV know to avoid or alert that a route it selects uses the HOV lanes?
2)Anybody else noticing different behaviour with the new 2010 Map INFO?

I doubt that the NAV is sophisticated enough to monitor the passenger seat to see whether you have two people in the car, then change your route depending on occupancy.
I don't recall my NAV sorting out California carpool lanes.

Hi Robin, I can appreciate your humor, but one point before I explain.
It could happen. Consider this: The passenger seat airbag system does have a monitor that lets the car know whether to enable or disable the passenger seat airbag. That could be used to do what you referred to in your response. Or perhaps, a seatbelt monitor could be used instead of or inconjunction with that affore mentioned idea. If the seatbelt is clicked, that would send data or a positive response versus no seatbelt being clicked ( ie no passenger in the seat). But seriously, that was not what I meant.
The Map data sent to the companies like Teleatlas include letting them know when a portion of HWY or Road is HOV. That can be as detailed as to what hours of the day those conditions are enforced. TOMTOM has this capability, as an example. It's not perfect, but the TOMTOM navs do ask if you want the route suggested to include using HOV routes. They may be adding that in on their own, but the point is that HOV awareness on GPS Navigation systems does exist.
Most likely, as you eluded to in your second sentence...The system is not programmed to include HOV data. But I wish it was!!

Based on experience in San Jose, and Los Angeles I just don't think MINI went to the trouble of integrating that into their NAV.
