if you custom order a mini (which is what happens most of the time, i'm guessing) how long does it usually take to come in? this would be good to know if i'm gonna get one, i need a window of time i'll have my old car or be without one.

this window probably fluctuates, all i want is guesstimates

It took about 6 weeks for me. It would have taken longer because the coming months orders had already been taken. I decided to go to another dealer and a opening became available. I got the car from dealer 1 week after it arrived so maybe 7 weeks. It is probably still possible to get one off the lot from Mini of the Hamptons and have it delivered to your house on a truck in a week or so, if your in hurry.

The nice thing about waiting is that is gives you a good long time to try to sell your car independently (i.e. through a newspaper or whatever) and then if you haven't sold it yourself by the time the new one comes in, you can always trade in to the dealer. You will make 50-100% more on selling independently than you would trading in!

They did not complete my financing agreement until my Mini was in the showroom, so that ought not to be an issue.

You need to talk to the dealer you're planning on buying from. Some have longer waits than others. This wait isn't for the car, it's for their turn to put your order in to the factory. Then there is the wait from when the order goes in until it is delivered to the dealer.

We ordered from MINI of Sterling. We went on the waiting list in early October, MINI of Sterling submitted the order in early December. Assembly was completed on Jan 9, it arrived at the Port of New York 8 days later. It then took 12 days from the time it was offloaded in New York and processed at the VPC before it was delivered to the dealer. We took delivery of the vehicle the day it was delivered to the dealer...

I ordered my MC on August 11 and picked it up on October 11...exactly two months, just as my dealership told me. (Patrick MINI in Schaumburg, IL if anybody in the Midwest is looking for an excellent dealership!)

Alot of the wait time depends on the backlog of orders and the supply and demand. Some dealers can order you a car right away and the build and delivery time is quick like 6-8 weeks while others like on the west coast can take up to 10 months to order a car.

In my area the wait for MC with CVT is very long because it is in demand right now. Since the dealer cannot meet the demand then their is a waitlist to get your order placed then another two to three months to build the MINI and get it delivered far far far away from the factory.

You might first check with dealerships in your area for approx waittimes just so you have an idea. The times will vary from season to season.

My MCS was built in 10/02 after being ordered in 8/02 and was ready for sale in 2/03. Not exactly fast.
