From a GTI to a MCS...

Hey all,

I just got out of a VW for the first time since I turned 16. I traded in my 2006 GTI MKV for a 2007 (sold date 1/1/2008 so warranty goes until 2012) Pepper White MINI Cooper S.

My car has the Sport Pack, Conv. Pack, Cold Weather Pack, and the 6 speed manual. Loving it so far, I'll post pics soon.

I, like all noobs, have a few questions:
1. My bonnet stripes are peeling, and I'm going to remove them but want the narrow stripes down the middle to replace...anyone have a good source?
2. I have a set of 1st gen 15" steelies with snow tires (MI winters) that I got for nothing...can they fit on my car without any issues?

That's it, just thought I'd introduce myself (Matt)...thanks!

1. Welcome!! Congrats on the MCS
2. Try Cooper Flags for stripes (you have to find/be your own installer)
3. Two possible issues, both easily checked out.
a) Mini went from 12mm wheel bolts to 14 mm just before your car was built. Early wheels might not accept the 14's
b) Cooper S front calipers might not clear the wheels.
Both issues are easily checked on the car. Hope this helps.

Hey my name's matt and i have a pepper white MCS '07 too.

Sorry i don't know the answer to your questions but i DO have some for you.
I was seriously considering the same GTI or MINI when i was car-shopping. Now that you've had both, tell me what you liked better, differences, happy that you've moved to mini?, acceleration, etc.

Thanks for the tips...

I'm from the west side (Holland, MI).

As far as GTI vs. MCS...the MCS is more fun at the end of the day. They're very similar and very different...both are great. I sold the GTI simply because it was a different feel and it was time for a change. Its soooo much more fun to throw around.

Then again, the MCS is a manual and the MKV was a DSG...so that makes it more fun regardless...

PM me for more details or if you have specific questions.
