Need help installing iPod adapter (p/n 65 11 0 035 964)

Anyone ever install their own iPod adapter (p/n 65 11 0 035 964) in their R53? Do I REALLY need the special tools they mention?

I have one in my hands and have lurked and scoured. Can't find any pics of what I need to do to get the radio or glovebox out.

No CD changer, No Nav, No HK stereo. I just want to stealthily hide the iPod in the glove box and control it through the head unit of the stock stereo and steering wheel buttons (Yeah, I know, I heard it only can do playlists this way, but dats fine wit me).

Thanks guys and gals!

I have the install instructions from the dealer just send a PM with your email and I will send it over. This should not be very difficult, I looked at the OEM adapter and bought a DICE and love it.

In your glove box there is a little plastic square box on the left That should pop out with aflat head screwdriver. You should be able to fit the ipod wire through that. For the rest behind the radio should be easy.

TRuTH: PM Sent

mini22: Sounds alot better than drilling a 5/8" hole, like the instructions say.

I went ahead and ordered a TIS manual on CD-ROM from eBay. I need one anyway as this is a new venture for me (owning a Mini) and I need to learn about the car and what certain repairs involve. The nearest dealer to me is 2 hours away.

That said, do I really NEED the special tools mentioned in the install instructions? I don't even know what a good substitute would be for a "Pin Removal Tool - 61 1 134" or a "Crimp Tool - 408-449" or where to find a good list online what these tools even look like (I've tried).

Whether I have the special tools or not, I am bascially just trying to see if there is anyone out there who has put one of these in to see how easy/hard it was and what tools they used (Thanks so far to both Mini22 and TRuTH).

This was the source of the info I used to remove my stereo.
As for special tools - no, you don't need them.
Pin removal tool - substitute long skinny pointy thing
crimp tool - substitute regular crimp tool or needle nose pliers

I didn't put one in, but I did R&R it to troubleshoot an intermittant problem. If you're willing to buy the TIS, I'm guessing you'll be able to do it without an issue. And if there are issues, that's why we're here.

Thanks, Eric! That's my kind of install instructions.

Pictures good, words bad.

I am in the middle of the install and I am stuck at the part where I have to use an AMP Terminal Removal Tool p/n 61 1 134. I don't see how needlenose pliers can pull a terminal out without stripping the wire of its insulation, I tried.

Any ideas on how to pull out terminals so they can be re-used somewhere else?

Edit: I used a teeny-tiny flat blade screwdriver, and it worked! (After calling a buddy if mine that used to work at a Mini dealer)
