DDM street intake install tips

just about to pick up my R56 tonight.... looking to get the DDM street intake... just a few questions...
DO i need to drill holes through the faux hood scoop to get more cold air in the engine bay to benefit the intake?
anybody have any tips for this?
anyone experience weird issues i.e. CEL on, etc. after installing the intake?

Can't wait to get this done... will post pics once I take delivery of the car.
thanks.

Congrats on the new car!

Just take the scoop-grill out. Looks better that way anyway in my opinion, and you'll get all the air in there that you'd want. Have had the DDM street for a long time now and never had a CEL.

No CEL. I didn't open up my scoop vents until recently and i've been seeing about a 2mpg increase. i'm waiting on the second tank to confirm. If you have a dremel or other rotary tool, a carbide tip, ear plugs and about 30 minutes is all you need to open up the vents.

I'd recommend light sanding where the MAF goes thru the metal hole. Unless they've changed it, the sensor module was extremely tight and wouldn't go all the way thru.

Oh and i'd also recommend spraying the MAF w/ some electronics cleaner after 500-1000 miles in case your filter was heavily pre-oiled.

The DDM street intake works great, I've been using it for about 2 or 3 months on my 2008 MCS. No issues. Was an easy install. -I did have to drill a notch out of the metal housing that comes w/ the DDM intake kit. ...I have a post on this forum showing photos of what I did. The notch was because there is a sensor on hte back of our intake ...opposite of the fuel injectors that is in the way of hte DDM intake housing. It's an easy fix ...

Here is a link to what I am talking about:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...adjusting.html

(sounds like it may actually be fixed and no longer an issue for new orders of the DDM intake).

I haven't received mine yet... was told my outmotoring, it should be soon. i will see if they indeed fixed this issue and post a pic. How's the seat of the pants dyno result? more torque? pulls harder in the top end? just curious... thanks.

Look what the nice UPS man delivered today

so, as it looks, they have made that notch on the intake now so I guess that issue has been resolved. Thanks to Aaron from outmotoring.com for the quick shipment of the intake. Now, I can't wait to install this thing. Probably have to do the dremel thing for the hood scoop....

Today I faced the most weird thing in the DDM street intake that I have, for about a year now....
the part that has the hole were the pipe metal pipe is connected, where the filter is attaching, has been cut!!!!

DDMworks intake installed.... it took all of maybe 20 mins. to install... Very nice piece... took for a quick go around last night and you can definitely hear the "whoosh" of the turbo now... and also the blow off when you let off the accelerator pedal.... will post more butt dyno results when I get on it more....

that's odd... for mine, there's no tube there since it's part of the MAF assembly... is that the one that broke off? did you maybe overtighten it? Let us know what happenned.... hope it all works out....

I have it there for almost a year. The metal tube where the filter is attached on, it got "disconnected" from the main housing part that is placed in the original place of the OEM filter...

I've had the intake for a few days now and just wanted to share my thoughts on it. It definitely has a louder "sucking" sound now. You can hear it when you step on the gas. The blow off sound really is cool but not obnoxious like some that I've heard. It seems to pull harder in the lower revs now but still have not really pushed it hard since I only have 900 miles on the clock. Maybe will do so this coming weekend after I pass the 1250 mark.... it does seem to pull stronger in the mid range so I'm pretty happy. It was a bit of a pain to dremel out the scoop grill but it seems to help the "high heat" hood issue. Over all, not bad for the price of admission.
