I need to tune my Classic up

I am needing to tune my classic up for the first time and am wondering where the best place is to buy parts is, any ideas? My mini is a 1982 Austin with the 998cc engine. The plugs I have installed now are N9YC Champions and are they the best? On another topic I posted a question on where synthetic oil was a viable option for my classic, so if you have an option on that I am all ears. Any help you can give would be great.

1. From my research I'm of the opinion that synthetic is not recommended for Minis. 20-50 dino seems to e the most recommended. I guessing here but I believe an isue to remember is that the oil is also the tranny fluid so synth may not be the best there.

2. I get most of my parts from Mini Mania or Moss but you'll get other recommendations.

3. The factory recommended plug was NKG BPR6E or BOSCH WR 8D+ (according to the Haynes....do you have a Haynes or Bentley book? Get one) gap is 0.8mm

4. What tune up parts are you looking for? If points are on the list consider replacing with a Pertronix electronic set

What oil filter should I pick up from my local hardware store for my 89 mini?

I've had good experiences with Wix, K&N, and Fram. Do any of them make a filter to fit a 1989 mini?

It wouldn't be listed for a Mini if it a manufacturer makes one that would fit...

Yes. But you won't find an 89 Mini listed anywhere. Lucky if you find 60's Minis listed. There's a sticky here on oil filters. I use a Bosch 3330. Valvoline VRX Racing 20W50

If you have points, chuck them and install Pertronix ignition for worry-free driving. I also use NGK @ 0.025" gap.

As the Mini could well be the world leader in 'customizing' it is strongly suggested that if you want do anything to the ignition you first compare what you have for a distributor verses some visual data point. Over the years many different distributors have been used in the Mini- get the right parts the first time- check this list:

for the mini stuff:
gbcarparts.com
heritagegarage.com
7ent.com
minimania.com
minispares.com

for plugs use NGK for 73 mg midget
oil 20w50 castrol
Oil filter you can p021 for 1998 Toyota Camry v6, it's a nice medium size one unlike others that are either too big or too small.
