Am I seeing things?

Am I seeing things?

I went to go look at a 2006 Mini Cooper S at a dealer and I notice something that I never noticed before when visiting Mini's at dealers. When I open the door, the window goes down a fraction of a inch and when you close it, it goes back up?! Am I hallucinating?

One other thing, they (non mini used car dealerships) keep saying that the Mini comes with the mirrors that fold in, but where is the button to make them fold in?

Im talking about 2005 and 2006 Mini's Both S and non S versions.

Thanks.

placement is the same in all r53, and r50's. In the center where the control for the mirror adjust joystick, there should be a small silver button next to the switch for left and right mirrors. press it and wala!
and yes the window does go down a half inch when opening..It is because the MINI is like most BMW coupes, without a top frame surrounding the window. So when the door is shut, the window seals by going up into the roofline weather strip. when you open the door, it moves down out of the roofline.

Just being helpful:thumbsup:

Great stuff! I would have never thought of PUSHING the button! LOL Does that mean if the car has electric mirrors it automatically has folding mirrors?

Its always good to know that i was not seeing things with the window.

How about people who live states that get lots of snow and freezing rain. Does the windown sometimes not go down when you open it? Just wondering if this could be a problem in our COLD Montreal winters.

The window will always move unless it isn't shut all the way. and you can have power mirrors without the folding option

In cold winter climates it is very common that snow/ice accumulates at the bottom of the window and freezes it shut. At that point the window does not go up or down upon opening.

I've had a MINI through 6 years of heavy winter without that ever causing any problems with opening the door or damaging the window motor.

Does the key have to be in the ignition and the car running for the mirrors to fold in?

to the best of my knowledge, all of the mirrors (edit: pre 07 except convertibles) are power ADJUSTABLE, but not power folding although they do all fold in manually (or fold "up" a little more than "in" like most BMWs)

I thought the PowerFold mirrors was a new feature with R56s, so it wouldn't be on an 06. Not all MINIs come with it, its an option, I don't have it so I don't know where the button should be.

Is this true? Is it only on the 2007+ models?

No, they were available on gen 1 cars as well. Although I believe the option was more prevalent in Europe and Canada. I'm not sure on the availability in the US.

I don't think the powerfold's were available on the early R53's. I have no idea about the 05-06 models though. All of them should have powered adjustable mirrors though. And it's not a big deal to fold the mirrors in/up.

I'm pretty sure all R50, R52 and R53's had the option of power fold mirrors. The heated seats/mirror control was designed around having a button there. If you look at the control underneath, you can see where they use the same frames, but the top cover changes based on options.
