Hood switch

Anyone knows if an R56 Cooper S hood will fit on a R55 Clubman non-S? I wanted to install a strut brace but no one makes one that clears under the R55 stock hood.

It should work as far as I know. I'd have one for sale if I could find a damn Cooper D hood to put on mine :(

Yes it will fit but you'll need to swap out the front grill and trim since the S hood is cut wider than the non-s. Here's the parts circled below.

The same applies for swapping a cooper d hood with a non-s hood.

You'll have to order one from a UK dealer and have it shipped to the states.

Lol I have a hard time justifying a full hood switch just to fit a strut brace With all that money and work why not just work on making a custom strut brace?

Well I have no idea what the hood switch would cost. It would serve two things though;

1. An awesome scoop that does not melt! woohoo~
2. Strut brace clearance

I contacted Detroit Tuned and they said they'll check it out for me. Where would you go for a custom strut brace though? Should I just get a regular strut protectors and find a custom fabricator? I keep hearing arguments of the brace not adding anything or further enhancing handling. Frankly it's a bling factor for me :P

A hood switch is gonna cost a good bit of money. From what I've seen the hood itself will cost about 300-400. Shipping would probably be 75-200 (more if you go for the D hood from across the pond). Then you're looking at 200-300 to paint it. Not to mention that you need parts like the grille assembly and the hood scoop.

Ouch. I guess I'm better off waiting for one to hit the salvage yard. I am assuming the older R53 S hoods don't fit the new R55 non-S clubmans. Waiting for a 2nd gen Mini S to be salvaged might be a while yet.

There's lots of salvage R56's you just have to do some searching.
