Very easy. No drilling either. Just put the arm rest pad over the brake, slide the two support clamps underneat the brake console, and tighten 2 screws under the arm rest pad and you're done! Takes a few minutes. I did it at my dealer before I drove off when picking my MC up.

What do the screws under the armrest pad do? Does it hold by spreading the legs apart and putting tension on the two support legs anchored by the base?

I'm trying to figure out what makes it hold steady and tight. And does it hold steady and tight or does it have some movement?

Yep, take 2 metal pieces shaped [. Point them
inwards like [ ] . The bottom _ is much shorter than the top bend.

When the two overlap, you push in these thumbscrews that tighten against the armrest pad, thus holding the two metal pieces together. There are little felt pads on the inside to prevent scratching the plastic brake handle console.

Is there play? Yes a little and no. When in use, as an armrest it's secure. If I put all of my 190 pounds on it, to scoot up my seat, yes it will move a bit. Since there is no physical attachments, no screws in the plastic, it is free to move a bit.

What I did was scoot the mount as far forward as I could on the console. Putting it farther back, had a bit more movement, due to the shape of the hand brake console. I'll post more pictures of this a bit later.

Think of the benefits though. No drilling. No loss of cup holder in the rear. You don't give up or compromise seat adjustment controls (I have leather seats with the lumbar support). It's about 1/3 the cost of most armrests, except for the ugly ones from MossMINI, and it looks OEM. If you want to remove it, it'll take just a few seconds.

The only downside is that because it's not rigidly connected it "can" wiggle, but I find in daily use, and I drove 4550 miles with it in 12 days, it never caused a problem, and it was worth every cent. Now 3 weeks later, it still feels solid.

It's positioned just right for shifting, so I find that my wrist is very relaxed to shift, when I want to be more laid back!

And of course the price compared to MINIFINI.com or any of other armrests out there is hard to beat.

Seems to be much better tought out than the one pictured here.

The minifini armrest is nice, but unfortunately it's not available for one, and secondly, it's a dealer installed item. I've heard it's already at about $150 or $175 not installed. So yes, it might be better thought out, but at $49, it can't be beat, and not to mention, it works great as an armrest.

Ok Here are some pix. Should be more clear, although I sized them the same. Note the color should match pretty well. If the closer seats look lighter, it's due to the flash. I would check the armrest to the color of the leather farther away for comparison.

To show how the supports meet the hand brake console, black matches seat belt latch support.

And here is the cup holder idea I've been working on:

Normal position, cup holder as far forward as possible


Alt. Normal position, cup holder as far rearward as possible


Ashtray/Coin holder open, doesn't interfere with operation


On driver side, doesn't get in way. I pulled my leg aside for the pic.

It still needs more work. I had to do some shaving and cutting to get it to fit properly, and now it needs to be strengthened some more. The nice thing is that it can be added or removed in about 1 second, and it keeps large drinks or small drinks very accessible. I prefer to locate it on the passenger side when I'm driving just because I can. =)

BTW.....the new cupholder at the dealer is terrific IMO....it attaches to either pillar and swing in and out without interfering with either smaller cup holders...holds coffee cups with a handle, big gulps, larger bottles of water....easy to install. too expensive at $35, but what isn't from the dealer.....I love it as I used to use the rear cup holder, but this is so much more convenient....thought it might look like an eyesore, but looks ok IMO, much better than any of the aftermarket ones I've seen.....the new arm rest from the dealer also looks great, which is also an easy install, but $150 if that is correct is a bit outrageous..lol !

 

Just got mine and installed it in about 2 minutes! It is perfect. This is the best compromise for space and cup-holder use, IMHO. And very reasonable! Thanks to Randy at gotmini.com.

my mini came from the factory with great cup holders. did i just get lucky?

also, my forearms are not close to being long enough to allow me to rest my elbow on a pad between the seats while keeping both hands on the steering wheel. i think you'd have to be proportioned like an orangutan to make this work, no?

The elbow rest as they call it is wonderful for owners of 5 or 6 speed MINI's cause it gives you a place to rest your arm. Maybe it's not as signficant for CVT owners who can keep both hands on the wheel all the time!

I don't know if you saw the MINI FINI armrest review on Bridger.US but did you know you lose the rear cup holder? This way they can sell you their own cupholder!
