it's a warning designed to warn you about ice on roads.

Yeah, that freaked me out when it happened to me - four days after I bought it last February. Thanks to NAM, I found out it wasn't a problem.

Ahh yes, the fall season is here, where newbe MINI owners drive their MINIs in the cold for the first time. Happens every fall, or when the temps dip below 37 degrees. What’s really fun is when you have the “low fuel,” “low temperature,” and “low tire monitor” ding all go off in one short trip. Only happened to me once.

Don't mean to be rude, but doesn't anybody read their Owners Manual anymore?

To (mis)quote Jeremy Clarkson: "It's a car - how hard can it be?"

Why does the computer only spit out 37. Why not the actual temperature?

It does give the actual temperature... 37 is when the computer will warn you that you're approaching temperatures low enough
to encounter ice on bridges and other cold surfaces.
If the temperature continues to drop it will display it accordingly.

Good to know. Mine doesn't do this. Then again, my computer says my average MPH after 22K miles is 7. I think my computer has issues.

You need to reset it on occasion. That is your average speed over those 22k miles! I reset mine before I left for MOTD2008 and when I arrived there, my average speed was 74MPH.

Doesn't seem right ...after 22K miles my average should be in the high 20s if not the 30s. Unless it counts time with engine on and not rolling.

It does, along with your average mpg.

I live a mile away from the gas station and when I fill up I reset the computer to drive home I like to play with the MPG's. When I get home and leave the car running for a bit the figures drop.

Problem solved.

I hadn't looked at the average speed in weeks ...since it always said 7, why bother. Today it said 0 (as in zero).

So, I reset it and drove about a mile, but nothing happened. So, I reset it again, this time holding the button down for about ten seconds. That did the trick. After a 45 minute drive my average speed is now 58.3. That is so much more MINI-like than 7.

The low temperature warning will ding and flash at 37 degrees if, while it is flashing, the temperature drops the display will drop. Now if your OBC is set to show something else, like average MPG, average MPH, etc., it will flash the temp for about 5-10seconds and go back to displaying MPG, MPH, etc.

As for the average speed, mine did the same thing. I believe I checked it once and it said something like 35 MPH then I checked it again within a month and it said something like 4 MPH!! No MINI owner in their right mind should have a average speed that slow!! I do a lot of highway driving and I am certain that the car has no less than 15 MPH average including setting and idling. Someone once told me that after the OBC racks up so much time and miles the computer gets confused, so I reset it and all is well again.

I used to have a heart attack every time the temp alarm went off. You will get used to it.

Today I accidentally hit the cruise control. It took me 20 minutes to stop having a heart attack and realizing it was just the cruise control light and not a warning lamp

The only (slightly) annoying feature is that it takes an extra press of the stalk button after you check the temp to get back to the speedo readout when the temp is below the warning threshold. The first press just stops the temp readout from flashing.

I suppose this is programmable and could be changed if it were that big of a deal.

You dont have to press anything... If you are in speed mode, it will flash 37 to tell you it is cold, but will go back to speed mode... Just give it a few seconds...

We flew to Calgary last week, and had our GPS on the plane with us, turned it on while in the air, now our trip speed is 356 MPH
