Oil leak from the oil filter.

I changed my oil and filter 2 weeks ago. Today I had a leak from the oil filter. My mechanic (a technician from Herb Chambers Toyota) took a look at it and replaced it with a new filter and o-ring. Told me filter was loose and did not fit snug. I took a look at the new filter's receipt and the old receipt and the it's the same filter. I don't want it to leak again in another 2 weeks. Is this the end of my problems or is there more?

My partner shop and I have checked out a few of the aftermarket oil filters and have found most of them do not fit just right and the O ring seems to be a weak link. Do you know what brand you have?
We like the http://www.hengst.de/conpresso/_rubr...ter_Systems_EN hard to find, but great fit and product.

The "O" ring would be the cause of the leak. I had a loose fitting "O" ring from an OEM filter I bought from MiniMania.COM.

Does the 04 use the same oil filter housing as the 05???

Last oil change I tried a Napa gold filter. It leaked as you are describing. I switched back to OEM and the O-ring on the OEM is significantly thicker. Only OEM from the dealer for the filter from now on.

Funny you mention that. Today, I changed fuel filters on 4 generators. When I did the first one, it leaked. So, I took it back off and compared it to the OEM filter that I had taken off. Sure enough, the o ring was a lot thicker than the replacement filter. In some cases OEM is better.

Classic Mini sells the OEMs for $7.86 ea.

I buy them three at a time. Don't forget to pre-fit the filter and use grease on the o-ring and the inside of the housing when you put it all back together.
