R50/53 So I replaced my torn motor mount, now what?!?!
So I replaced my torn motor mount, now what?!?!
My passenger side mount mount was completely torn and clunking HORRIBLY over rough roads, bumps, etc. I finally got around to replacing it today and took her for a test drive and its definitely better, but there is still something clunking on the right side. I can't tell if its the front or back, but what else could be doing this? Its only happening if i go over a speed bump or water run off at an angle but not straight on. Possibly the end links?
Its driving me nuts!

Put the car up on jack stands and check all bolts in the front suspension.
One thing that crosses my mind is that while the main motor mount was damaged, the engine flopped around enough to tear the lower mount's rubber.

With the car parked, roll down your window and push on the car side to side. (lowering window helps to push on roof). Have someone else listening under the hood or actually touching the sway bar to feel the clunking if its coming from there.
i'm bringing this baby back from the dead. So today while driving to work, I jerked the wheel to the left to avoid a pot hole and felt the clunk. I can replicate the clunking whenever I jerk the wheel sharply to the left... any ideas? I have also confirmed that it is coming from the front right side of the car.

that's easy, stop jerking the wheel.
Sorry just couldn't pass that up.
Really, check the ball joints and the end links. I'd leave the MINI on the ground with the E-brake set, gear box in neutral and see if there is any play in the control arm.
