vmax coil overs or OEM with spring change?

Hi guys,

I was thinking about lowering my car just a tiny bit. In your opinion am I better off getting the VMAX coil overs $600 ish dollars or fork out $230 for new springs and lower my stock OEM suspension? If so where can I get a good deal on springs? Will my camber still be OK? What are the pro's and con's - I'm a real suspension noob!

Your experiences and opinions will be much appreciated.

Hello Mike, for me it comes down to miles, how many are on the OEM setup?
Less then 50K then a set of TSW Springs will get you what you want. More then 50K you might want to think about Megan coilovers. Also what year is your MINI? If it was built before Jan 2005 you will need adjustable rear control arms to fix the rear camber back to stock. You can find all of the above and more at my site and I welcome any more questions.

Hi AutoX,
My car is a 2003 and I have around 37,000 miles on the car.
Having a look at your site now

Edit: Why do you say less than 50k miles? How long are the OEM supposed to last?

You can get about 100K +/- on the OEM shocks. Going with the springs will just help you save some money now, or use it other places, rear arms, front camber plates, etc, and get the full life out of the OEM parts. As a rule I try to get all the life I can out of the OEM part before replacing with an upgraded part. However things like springs may need upgrading before they run out of life due to other issues, such as, wanting to lower the MINI.

Ahh great!

Do you perhaps have any before and after photo's with the TSW springs? We work in metric system here so I don't really understand 7/8" etc. I want to see how much of a drop they offer.

I'm not into the "slammed" look at all, just want to make the gap between the wheel and arch slightly smaller.

7/8" is about 22.225mm, I think that will give you the results you want.
