Rubber or hydraulic motor mount?

I can't seem to find a replacement passenger side rubber mount for my '03 r53, should I keep looking or replace it with the hydro mount? Is that even possible?

I know you can replace the newer mount assembly (mount + bracket) with the older one, because the screw holes in the body for the old bracket are still there, but I don't know if you can go the other way.

Can the MINI dealer not order the rubber mount for you? Have you tried PelicanParts?

The 03 model OEM rubber mount is fluid filled, it is a hydraulic engine mount; my replacement came from Classic MINI. A how-to.

Good catch - I thought he was talking about the all-rubber non-hydraulic mount (the one closer to the firewall), and asking if he could replace the whole assembly with the newer single-mount setup.

Still, I would think that *all* of the engine mounts for a 2003 should be readily available.

you could also hold off till the all NEW TSW motor mount comes out. Yet, TSW and AXC have worked together and TSW is building an all new replacement system to rid the world of leaky mounts. More news next month.

So, will the TSW/AXC mount replace the entire mount/bracket assembly, making it a suitable replacement for both the old *and* new systems? From the other thread, I got the (probably mistaken) impression that it was just a replacement for the leak-prone later setup.

We are working on the leaky one 1st. But the other one will be next, there is a few different issues to deal with, the sizes are diff and a few other tech things I don't fully understand, I just sell the stuff , but I know it will be tested and 100% before we sell them. I can say the new one will be a mount and have some other built in benefits too.

Now that would be nice! I'm on my 3rd on my 05, very annoying to discover it leaking again this weekend. I don't notice any additional vibration at this point, so I'll hold out for this replacement!

It is "next month" from when this was posted, any news?

We're working hard to get the first prototypes made, which is more of a challenge for parts that include special rubber parts. Getting 10,000 copies made is the easy part, but we can't commit to that until we know the design is right. As always, we'll keep everyone informed on our progress.

Totally understand having worked in that engineering/prototype world part of manufacturing. Thanks for the update!

We're attempting to get parts made for the prototype builds. Looks like I may be casting the first prototypes myself, which is no big deal. Obviously production pieces are a ways out, though we'd love to have everything finished and ready to go.

It's kinda simple really. At least in my experience.

Look for black, oily, smelly substance below the mount and/or the inside of the right front wheel and/or on the ground.

Here's a couple of pics (an R50 and an R53) of failed passenger side mounts:
