Something broke.

I was pulling up to a light this afternoon when I heard something bad from in the footwell and felt something under my foot. When I stopped I found half of a wire ring sheared off of something lying on the carpet under the pedals. Looking at the parts diagram I think its from the return spring for one pedals, probably the clutch (#15 in the diagram).

This doesn't seem to be dangerous to drive like this, the clutch still seems to work. I've scheduled a service appointment to look at this.

Good!! It was probably not installed exactly right in the first place.

I agree with gokartride. WIth a mini THAT new, it has to be a problem with the installation from the factory.

Time for a visit to the dealer...

I have had two already and my 08 MCS is only 2.5 months old. Minor but irritating stuff...

The service advisor called, I was right about it being the clutch return spring. They're rush ordering a new one and hopefully it'll be installed by lunch tomorrow.

I'm not sure about wrong installation, this is Tristan who's 18 months old by now. I'd suspect fatigue in a faulty spring. The alternative is the faulty installation or it moved somehow and got caught between 2 surfaces as the pedal moved and got sheared off. A careful examination of the ends of the broken spring might tell you which happened, I didn't look that closely.
