Gas Tank lid seems darker the other paint?
I noticed it from day one, does anyone else think the gas tank latch cover looks a bit darker then the other paint?
I have a Chili Red..

The original 07 factory vid of the R56 showed them painting the gas cap cover, hanging on a wire beside the vehicle so it would get painted by the same batch of paint. something must happened in your case. Maybe some damage in delivery!!!
mine has had to be replaced once already... it literally fell off in my hands after filling up with petrol...
the replacement is still loose - my MOM knocked it off while helping me clean my car
(wow - I sound like I am 16.5 yrs old in this post but it was actually just me borrowing my parents garage for a fall clean up and not minding when they helped)

no dont there was damage, just seems a shade darker
Is it always darker in all lighting? My yellow one changes color depending on the time of day and what lights the car is under. So does yellow on the rest of the car too. At times it matches and at times it doesn't. Depends on the light and the angle I look at it.

Like Djam said, it's not painted the same way or at the same time as the car's body. It may be the same batch of paint but if it's sprayed in a different direction the color specs (pigment) are not aligned the same way as as the car's so the light reflects differently and looks darker or lighter.
The same paint can look different on metal than it does on plastic. However, it can be made to be pretty close.
My MCS scoop was a slightly different silver than the body. MINI of Mountain View referred me to a body shop that did warranty work for them. When I called, the guy was doubtful that the situation could be corrected because one was steel and the other plastic. However, when he saw them he changed his tune. He was surprised at how different they were. He also suspected that something got damaged and was repainted. He thought it might be the hood.
I had them replace the rear bumper at the same time. (Parking lot incedent) and he discovered that the paint that he mixed to match the hood didn't match the rear of the car.
