Ruby's BBQ Shack in Haw Creek NC (off tunnel road in Asheville). I had beef brisket, fries and slaw. Lisa had a pulled pork sammie. They had a BBQ sauce made with root beer, Jack Daniels, and habanero peppers that was killer.
Sounds good. I'm an eastern NC, pepper-vinegar girl. Do they have that style there? I'm always looking for eastern carolina BBQ places .... Oh, do they have the skins?

Unfortunately no eastern style there and no pork skins. My personal preference is for the mustard based Q but I love all.
You really might like their Root Beer/Jack Daniels/Jabanero sauce though. It starts off tasting really different and then turns into a nice slow burn but never gets too hot, just enough to be interesting.
I have had to pleasure of eating there and it is very good especially the sauce. Just got email from my buddy who was born and raised in Brooklyn and now is a retired snow bird, living in Long Island summer and The Villages in Florida in the winter. We are going to meet up in Florida for some BBQ on my way to Mickey & Mini's. He's not jewish, but if he were, don't think it would stop him from eating BBQ.
When I first moved down here from Brooklyn in 1978 I had never heard of BBQ before. When some colleagues suggest getting BBQ for lunch I was all excited - as far as I knew BBQ was hot dogs and burgers cooked outdoors over a grill. So I was in for quite a shock - I thought "What thhe heck is this stuff?"
