The tolerance is +- 7 lb ft so you have some wiggle room.

Seriousily, from the TIS...

_______________TYPE_____THREAD____TIGHTENING SPEC___MEASURE____
1AZ wheel bolts__R55/R56__M14/17 A/F___________________140 +/- 10 Nm

A bit high I thought, but that's what it says...

The 140 N-m (103 ft-lbs) torque spec is for the newer 14mm bolts. The OP has a 2005 MINI, so his car has the older 12mm bolts. 88 ft-lbs is the correct spec for the older bolts.

rlnewby, the torque spec is from the BMW TIS (Technical Information System). As ScottRiqui rightly pointed out, the OP has a 2005 MCS and what I previously posted was for R55/R56 as stated on the torque spec. As for R53, the spec as as below.

Some of the first-gen R50/R53/R52 cars used the 14mm bolts as well. The general rule is:

All MINIs built after mid-July 2006 (as well as all of the JCW GP cars) use the newer 14mm bolts and have a torque spec of ~103 ft-lbs.

All other MINIs use the older 12mm bolts and have a torque spec of ~88 ft-lbs.

My wife and I both have 2006 'S' convertibles, but hers was an April build and mine was a September build, so we actually had both sizes of bolts until I installed the 14mm -> 12mm conversion stud kit on mine.
