Hi Folks, I am trying to find a solution to playing Audio Books in the CD player.

I have many books in MP3 format on CD, and enjoy listening to them while traveling to work.

Here is the problem. Some of the tracks are anywhere from 30 minutes to 60 minutes long. My commute to work is 15-20 minutes. The mini has the nice feature, of restarting a track from the beginning if the car has been off more than 30 minutes or so. This is what's killing me. I get to listen the same 15 minutes over and over unless I drive the long way to & from work.

Does anyone know how make the CD player "resume" the current track, rather than restarting it?

It's working as the factory intended it, as dumb as it is.

 

Your only hope may be to get an R53. I have this problem with the iPod adapter. With the R53 it'd start up from where it left of. With the R56 it got the annoying behavior of starting from the beginning of the track.

My other solution is to get a third party Aux-in adapter and ignore the fancy adapter.

 

Yeah, I have move to plugging my ipod into the Aux port, but I have a similar problem when the ipod auto-off's after a few hours.

Oh well, if this is with worst problem I have with the Mini...

 

If you are willing to build a new CD, there may be a way to break up tracks into a group of smaller mp3 files. This depends on the CD not having protected files. I haven't tried this lately. So, not entirely positive that it still works.

In iTunes select the track and open the Get Info window. In the Options tab you can set the start and end time. Set them for the first five minutes (or whatever time length you want) and convert the the track to mp3. iTunes seems to allow converting from mp3 to mp3. You should get an mp3 file for the time period you set in the Options of the original.

Go back to the original file and set the time period to just after the previous one. Convert to mp3. Repeat until you have the whole thing broken into smaller pieces. Burn a CD with the new files.

I'm aggrevated by the same problem.
I complained to mini when they called me about how I
was doing, when I bought the car.

I got this and it works great:

The handy part is that it will renumber the tracks automatically.
I generally split an hour mp3 into 10 parts although I think
you can do as many as you want.

 

This works for me in an R56 with the Nav, but I'm not certain about without it.

Turning off the stereo before shutting the car makes the car remember the track position until I come back- even two or three days later.

It might also have something to do with the convenience package though- if I stop a track this way when using my key fob, but then come back to the car with my wife's, it remembers her audio settings instead.

But, if I keep the CD in until we turn the car off again and come back with my fob, it will still remember the track position.
