'09 JCW Bluetooth Pairing Probs With Moto Q

Since we're one of the few who actually has one of these (so many of you are still waiting on yours), I'm not sure if anyone can help, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

We tried pairing my Motorola Q to the Nav last night and I can get as far as entering in the passkey on both the phone and the Nav. After several minutes of "pairing", it eventually times out and only gives the option to "re-pair phone".

Has anyone had this problem? I've tried going to the Motorola website as well as the MINI.com/bluetooth site and to no avail.

Not sure what to do.

Thanks!

Ok, I just did a lot more research and discovered this:

http://www.wireless4mini.com/phones.html

Neither mine nor Mozza's phones are compatible. This site shows the 15 phones that work with the Nav. Boo hoo!!

The copyright of the site is dated 2007 and I'm assuming that MINI hasn't changed which phones are compatible with the 2008/2009 MINIs. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.

I think the iPhone is next on our list of gadgets to get for the car :-)

There's phones that work that aren't on the wireless4mini site. Those are just the phones that they have available for sale through them. Check the links in sig for a spreadsheet based on all the reports I've been able to gather up.

People have had trouble getting the Q to pair before, but after multiple tries, it seems to work for some people. Try pairing it a couple more times?

As far as we know, the Bluetooth bits of the car remained unchanged from 2007 up until now. There's no reports on the 2009's yet (well, excluding yours ) so we don't have much to go on. 'Official' information is pretty tough to come by.

Out of curiosity, was the SmartPhone prep available as an option to you? Just curious about the USB port connection being available in the armrest.

Check out these treads.

I had the same problem with my Motorola Q. Do the following, first make sure you have the latest firmware on the Motorola Q.

Go here:
http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto...A&language=ENS

But beware, that flashing your phone will wipe it. You will have to re-setup everything.

Next do you have Voice Activation in your car? Does the Voice Activation (Voice Command) Button Work? I have a '07 R56 and when I picked it up, the Voice Activation did not work. You would press the button (on the left side of the steering wheel) and nothing would happen. During this time, the Motorola Q wouldn't sync either. Same symptoms as what you are experiencing.

I brought it into the dealer, complained about Voice Command not working, and they flashed the firmware. Voice Command worked, and the immediately the Motorola Q started to sync perfectly.

Then I got the Motorola Q9M (because the thing matched my Mini), and bluetooth doesn't work once more.

THEN my co-worker got the Motorola Q9C. I tried to sync that to my car, just for grins, and it works perfectly again. My advice, get the firmware updates for both your car and your Motorola Q. Stay away from the Q9M. And if you upgrade your phone, get the Q9C.

Oh, and last piece of advice, check the location of the microphone. Silly British MINI craftsmen were installing the mic on the passenger side, not the driver side.

Hope that helps.
