mud flaps on clubman

I ordered Carmine on 19 Feb, took delivery 7 April. When I ordered, mudflaps were part of the order. When I picked him up, no mudflaps - "On back-order."
After several phone calls, they finally came in so I took Carmine in to get them installed Monday. Said it would take 1 1/2 hours. After 4 hours they came out and said it was ready - their first install of mudflaps on a clubbie, and was a pain. When I looked at them, the fronts were ok, but the rears - NOT.
They stuck out from the fender flares a good 1/2" and there was an added piece of plastic between them and the fender flares, plus the adhesive strips on the flaps wasn't affixed . They said they installed it exactly as prescribed by MINI. I said, "no way" and the service mgr. agreed, so, back to the shop and 2 hours later they looked fine - removed the extra plastic and used the adhesive strips. 6 1/2 hours.
If you're having them installed, be wary...

I have found that the tech's at some dealers could be out done by a monkey.

I have looked at the Mini Written instructions for the rear mud flaps and it can not be that difficult. the only thing is in the instructions i saw it did not tell you to take the wheels off which it seems to me needs to be done. Same for the front.

I have installed mud flaps on other vehicles and at most an hour is all it should take to do four.

Hey group, anyone with the Aero Kit on the Club have flaps? Miniusa website shows it's possible, but my MA says no go. The dealership said they would charge $299 for them+install...coughripoffcough....if I can get them on the aero I'll put them on myself...

I really want those mudflaps, but the labor charge on them is out of the question. How difficult were they to install?

It seems like such an easy thing to install?

Do yours feel "solid"? I'm thinking it's time for the dealer to take another shot at installing these...

Thanks!

So far they've been working really well keeping mud off the body parts - and mine are fastened quite sturdily. i'm happy with them NOW.

I guess "sturdy" is a relative term. However, keep in mind that they are a pliable rubber, so they will bend and move if you grab them. However, they don't feel like they are going to fall off. The fronts attach much more solidly than the rears.

Mine are VERY effective at keeping roadspray and such off of the sides. Even after the HEAVY downpours we have been experiencing here in the east, they car remains clean looking. The dirtiest part of my car is always the roof - the sides of the car stay suprisingly clean.

My back mudflaps...(okay, the mudflaps on the back of the Clubman ) are pretty loose. The dealer installed them, but it's like there needs to be a third attachment point and they're only attached top and bottom.

Lady G: If you and Mr. Lady G. want to bring them down our way, along with some cold beverages, I'll install them.
Oh, bring the instructions...

If there was a Mr. Lady G we wouldn't be having this discussion!

(and thank you for offering...there's a good chance I will take you up on it, perhaps after this disgusting heat wave passes!!!)

My MA talked me out of getting the mud flaps. told me the cost to install was insane - something about several hours of work and if my memory serves me correctly - well over $400 to install.

if someone knows where I can find the installation instructions please point me in the direction of where they are. I'll do the work myself.

Apparently my MA is a "liar" too, because that is exactly the reason I didn't order them. About the same price Joep is saying... I think it was going to be like $400 total parts & labor. Way too much.

My MA would have been nuts to lie - he actually talked me out of buying them because of the cost. he said they were cost prohibitive. He was being helpful to me because it of the cost. Maybe that's the cost set at the dealership.

Does anyone know what they cost from the parts department?

Woops!

Well, wif the cold ones, the offer still stands! I'm sweating my bazoo off in the garage with car wax even as we speak.

Well, actually, the offer still stands without the cold ones...

You won't need the instructions. I didn't have any and still managed to fumble around and install them in about an hour. The dealer is probably including removing the rear fender liners, whereas I just pulled the corner down to get to one of the attachment screws (this is all very clear when you start looking at how they install).

For the rears, yo will need to remove the wheels. For the fronts, just turn the wheels to get them out of the way (for DS turn to left and vise-versa).

My set (f&r) was less than $120 out the door at my dealer.

Everybody I've talked to who had mudflaps on their Minis has had some sort of problem with them. Actually, every BMW I've had with mudflaps had a problem...so they just aren't right. I'd avoid them.

Gee, I ordered mine with the mudflaps ($145? on the configurator) and when I picked Zim up they were all installed. No extra charge, nothing... I've seen them for way less on other ecommerce sites, but of course you've got to install them yourself. Guess my MA was being good to me?
