Brake pads wearing on an angle?

I just pulled the wheels off my car after an autocross and took a look at the pads (at least the outer ones). One both sides of the car, the pads were wearing much more on the area closer to the wheel lugs and the outside area of the pad had almost twice as much thickness. Is this normal?

NO. Might be a manufacturing defect in the pad. Or the caliper was mounted back on catywhompus. I don't know. I'm not an expert. But I do know that that amount of pad taper is not normal.

I called a local dealer. The service advisor checked with the shop foreman and said that the pad should wear pretty evenly and that I should bring my car in to have the caliper checked. When they look at it I'll let everyone know what happened.

Just a note..you might want to double check...just so you know the pads come tapered on the edges..however the contact patch ..the flat part touching the rotor should be wearing evenly. See picture below...

No, it's slanted on the other axis. The actual contacting pad material is wearing very unevenly.

i have heard that if you have the rubber supports for the brake callaper that might be what is doing it aka r53. the r56 should not have this problem because they us metal.

Worrying that there are multiple comments related to this. Pads can end up wearing somewhat uneven but overall should be too much off. Always a good idea to clean things out and regrease the post and such during a brake change, but ultimately the calipers should be self aligning without too much constriction. Would be interesting to know what cars this is happening on.

would also be helpful to know what side and front or rear to better address the 1st post. The rears have been known to jam in the posts and wear uneven. If you are under warranty then the dealer should fix it. Which wheel is it? Pics? What do the back pads looks like? R53 or R56?
