Does anyone know the function of the middle button on the left side? My dealer doesn't know and this is the response that I got from MINI Customer Relations - "When the multifunction steering wheel controls option is ordered, it includes remote controls for the In-Car Entertainment (ICE) system. In brief, they will be positioned on the rear of the wheel and offer the following functionality for volume, mode and for a search option."

It doesn't do anything, according to my dealer. Have you searched? There have been other discussions about this. Some think it might be tied to a cell phone option to be available at a later date, but for now it does absolutely nothing.

Mine mutes my stereo....oh wait, that's right, I've got an aftermarket headunit with a PAC SWI-X interface. Isn't it supposed to change CDs in your changer if you have one?

I wish it would allow me to toggle between AM and FM. I know, that button is only a few inches away, but...

I agree! Changing from music to news or sports is a common everyday function! We really could use a button on the steering wheel to change FM to AM. But from what I understand, most cars with MFSWs don't have this function.

What I heard is that it has "future functionallity" in activating the phone. Supposedly on the right side of the rear view mirror is a mic and on the dash in the vent is a speaker. What I was told, by a fairly reliable source, is that a future option will be integrated phone.
