Goodbye MINI, Hello Porsche

I just sold my 2005 MCS to CarMax for $15,000 to make room in my garage for the new 2008 Porsche 911 Carerra S that I ordered. It had 57,000 miles and was in excellent condition, except the tires needed to be replaced and it was due for scheduled maintenance. Do you think that was a fair price? I probably could have gotten more for the Mini if I sold it to a private buyer but replacing the tires and doing the scheduled maintenance would have cost me at least $1,000.

The Mini was the most fun car there is for under $25,000 but the 911 S should be even better, although at 4 times the price.

I still have a Mini sunshade with the Mini logo that I paid $49 for which I will sell for just the cost of mailing it if anyone is interested.

Congrats on the new Porsche! I have to say though that I don't get the same thrill from our CTT as I do from the Mini. What you need to do is have both.

I've been trying to talk the wifey into a 911, but it's not happening.

I hope that it's at least four times the fun of the MINI.

Congratulations on your new acquisition and may it bring you miles of driving pleasure!

Hi Nathan.

I'm interested in the sunshade, but I'd feel better about it if I paid more than just the postage. Your offer is too gererous. Email me when you get a chance.

Best,
Mark

I had to make a deal with the wife; next year she gets to trade in her '01 BMW 330 convertible on a new BMW 335 convertible. I tried to talk her into an Audi S5 instead but she wants another convertible. If Audi would make an S5 convertible, that would be a really nice car!

MINI or Porsche

MINI or Porsche...hmmmmmmmm.

For me a MINI, always a MINI. I've owned a lot of cars but the MINI is the only one that consistently puts a smile on my face.

I hope you enjoy the Porsche, but I think we will see you back in a MINI one day.

I think its funny that you seem to have balked at paying for MINI scheduled maintenance while buying a $100K Carrera.

Not a chance, Porsche is in a different league.

I like the lines of the R53 MINI a lot. But I could sit and stare at a 993 911 until my retina's fizzled and fell out of my skull.

You buy a Porsche because it's a Porsche. Be sure to post pictures and sound clips so we can enjoy it vicariously.

Congratulations. I too am waiting to order a Carrara S...but I'm waiting for the facelifted model due to be released in the next month or two. Do you think you have been a little premature?

Yeah, I considered waiting for the '09 Carrera S. I really like the changes that they are making to the front end for '09 and it will also have an iPod interface (not available at all in '08 model) but I would have had to wait until September or later for delivery. Mine is due to be delivered in July. I expect with the dollar exchange rate so bad right now that the price will also be going up. When I ordered it about a month ago the dealer said that there were only twelve 2008 911 Carrera S coupes still available for custom order for the US at that time (that doesn't include the other 14 versions of the 911).

I have a Boxster at the moment, I plan to order the 911 in about August or September for end of the year delivery. Prices may go up a bit, but interest rates could go down more...so to me it might balance out. I just can't decide on a colour at the moment. I wanted Atlas Grey but that is a special order colour now. I'll have to see what the 09's bring. I also saw the iPod adaptor was coming (at last) in the small print of the order guide.

Having the MINI coming has taken my mind of obsessing about 911 specs for a while. MINI delivery is tomorrow, so I guess I'll have to start worrying about specs again. But sports seats and exhaust are not up for debate

I too want a 911, almost any year or model, but would not give up the MINI.

As the owner of a 52 MG-TD, 66 MGB, and a 72 Ferrari Dino as well as my 03 MCS. I am in the process of selling the TD and would sell the MGB if I could just get it finished, but the Mini and the Dino will never leave my garage.. I was lucky to buy the Dino in the summer of 84 for the bargain price of $23,000. When Enzo died they shot up to $175,000 and I still couldn't let it go...The prices have come back to reality and still I see myself driving that thing till I die...Porsches are the same way, once you own one you keep wanting more...

I have allot of cars and I have to say that the MINI has been a great edition to the clan.

You did well on that Dino. If you want to sell it, PM me. I know that you said you wouldn't, but.........
