I am also a Mini and Porsche fanatic

Are the Porches REALLY up to $100k over here?? Our buddy bought a drove-it-out-of-the-Stuttgart factory Caiman less than a year ago, and paid just over $55k.
I've always planned to have a nice array of cars - after I win the lottery. I could be tempted to add a Porche to that list, ESPECIALLY if it were that '55 Porche Speedster!!! RRRRaoowrr!!!

sorry but....NO!!!!!!hahah
When I bought the Dino it was during the day's in Houston when Oil Execs were using drive thru Pawn shops to get rid of there Rolexes..It was love at first sight... Fly Yellow with the Daytona seats with no rust and a recently rebuilt engine from the Ferrari Dealer. It was either sell the car or lose his house... I felt bad for him for about thirty seconds after I gave him the check..The hardest part was convincing my parents, I was a recent College grad with a 84 GTI. I had to live with my parents for 3 years after but it was well worth it. It only goes out on very nice day's but with the help from an old Ferrari mechanic I've learned how to do most maintanence myself. The mini is now my main transportation.
I was at the Porsche dealer yesterday and got there just as a guy was pulling up in a 600 hp Carrera GT. They had to set up special ramps just so he could pull into the lot without scraping the front end. The salesman said that before Porsche stopped making the Carrera GT they sold 4 of them at $460,000 each! Here is a blurry pic taken with my phone.
I can totally understand still having tons of fun in the mini. When I am home its either drive my mini or either my fathers 992 or the 87 Targa. For some reason I still choose my mini over those cars. Well.. not all the time but enough to say I love my mini
How about this SXE Porsche
or my "1SXE-TUB"
A Porsche that is a joy to drive and doesn't cost $100k

Sold my Porsche to get a Mini
I had an '05 MCS/JCW that I sold because I HAD to have the '06 Cayman S with ALL the performance options (MSRP $70k). In the 14 months I owned it all I could do was miss my Mini. Sold it and am happy again with my fourth Mini on order ('08 JCW/MCSC).Way more fun to drive and own IMO. Get's alot more attention too. The Porsche(jet black w/19" anthracite wheels) might as well have been invisible. No one cared. EVERBODY wants to check out my Mini.Sorry.
I sold my '72 2.4 911S and my '72 914/6 (3.2 conversion) to buy a pair of R53s for my wife and I.....No looking back! No regrets!
After the 993 (last of the great 911s) you couldn't push me into one of those "water burner" 911s.....and I like the MINIs for the smile on my face on every road in all weather without a care....I think there are too many people buying PORSCHE for the badge on the hood...ande they can't get 60% of the cars capibiliy out of it.
LONG LIVE the MINI!!!!

Definitely gotta have the sports exhaust! I tried to go easy on the options but still ended up with over $16,000 in options. Nobody knows how to charge for options like Porsche charges for options. Here's what I ordered on my Carrera S which should arrive in July:
Basalt Black Metallic Paint
Full Leather Interior in Natural Brown Leather
Center Console in Leather
Adaptive Sports Seats
Heated Seats
325 Watt Bose Sound System with 14 Speakers
Carrera Sport Wheels
Sport Exhaust System
Carpet in Deviating Color (Black)
Instrument Dials in Black
Floor Mats

I would like a two-tone interior too, but I HAVE to keep the car under $100k
I started thinking I would go for a non-S, but by the time I added on the xenon's, 19" wheels, sports steering wheel etc, it was almost as much as an S.
Here's my baby. '70 RSR clone on a S body with steel flairs, and fiberglass in the right places. It has a 3.2 liter Motronic motor out of a Carrera and 915 trans. This is the second incarnation of this vehicle: I had to crash the first one at Pocono years ago. It's the only car I drive that's as fun as the Helix R53: totally visceral.

And a posterior that Marc Anthony could appreciate:

Having said that, if you prefer rear wheel drive I understand completely.
I also like the bi-color interior but it isn't available with natural brown leather. The sand beige is too light and the terracotta looks orange.

If there's one car I'd trade my 993 C4S for it would be a '73 Carrera RS. IMO, these are one of the best 911s ever built.
That's what I said until I went for a test drive in a 911 with the manual sports seats. I couldn't adjust the seat to get enough thigh support. When you raise the seat it seems to raise the back more than the front. Besides, the power side bolsters on the adaptive sports seats provide great lateral support

Eric,
Great to see another 6speeder over here at NAM! For all you Porschephiles who haven't already heard of Eric, his products have a great reputation for quality.
Nathan, congratulations on the 997S purchase! I sold off a 997S 2005 launch edition with tons of goodies not too long ago. I truly loved the adaptive sport seats - they're the best auto seats I've ever had. The leather dash was worth the extra cost too to provide that needed luxury feel. And lastly, the build quality of parts like the suspension pieces is top shelf.
Interestingly, like some of the other postings, I'm having more fun with commuting in my Mini than any of my previous 8 Porsches. It's a state of mind - a youthful enthusiasm that I lost while driving the P-cars. You'll attract a different kind of envy and admiration with your new ride for sure. It's not better or worst, just different.
