My wife had a 2004 Cayenne S. Yes, I know it's no 911 or Cayman, but that thing was bullet proof. Lots of fun offroading, took it everywhere, even on overnight off roading trips. I have a lot of respect for the Porsche marque seeing how they design and build a car. Driven many 993's and 996's. The new 997 with direct injection should be a phenomenal car. I came close to purchasing a 933 Twin Turbo, but the pricing continues to climb. And they are not cheap to maintain. Enjoy!!!

Yeah, I almost wish I had waited a few more months instead of buying an 08. The all new 385 hp direct injection engine alone would have been worth it. Then there are the new options that weren't available before like iPod interface, XM radio, and ventilated seats. But I can't complain, my new 08 C2S is awesome and plenty fast!

Kudos to you and your wife!

Then you'd probably really like this one...

Note: Although our (former) Cayenne S made it through fine with no ill effects, as a more experienced off roader now, I wouldn't have taken the same area at the same rate of speed, since it created the wave up over the front hood.

Nah, that's the case with everything. I just bought a 2006 Mini S, so I am behind the technology curve myself.

iPod and XM don't make it handle any better or accelerate any faster.

Enjoy the 997 C2S, wonderful driver's car I am sure. Love the look too, much more style and character over the 996's, IMHO.

If I were ever to buy a Porsche, it would be an air cooled 911 (1995 to 1998).

If you have $100K+ to shell out on a new Porsche, I am sure you will have no problem assuming the astronomical maintenance/repair costs of a Porsche.

Nice cars for sure, but the MINI gives you thrills close or very close to that of a 911 for $80K less.

I personally, prefer to pocket the $80K difference.

Enjoy the new ride.

Fun to read this thread. I have an E30 M3 that I doubt I will ever sell. Totally about the drivers car. Have driven a nicely built 930 that was crazy fast and tons of fun, would like to add a 993 to the stable one day...we'll see.
Enjoy your cars guys, that is what these kinds of cars are all about.
Cheers,
john

My Mini service advisor said that about 10% of HIS clients also earn Porsches. There are some definite similarities in the fun factor. There are Porsche, Lotus, and other sports car owners that also own Mini's.

I've driven a few 911's. Just couldn't get myself to buy a car built with it's engine in the rear, that's constantly trying to put it into the front of the car. Heheh. Just joking. Lots of wonderful racing heritage in the 911.

Local dealer wanted $12K to replace the frame on our Cayenne S, saying they thought it might be bent. I had an independent and well respected repair shop in the Porsche Community check it out, and it was straight.

However, expensive as it was to maintain, I did (other than that incident) find the technicians and service advisors to generally be thorough, competent, and knowledgeable about Porsches and cars in general.

I'm not sure that the 993's are getting any cheaper. I missed my window. I came close to a 993 Twin Turbo. Ultimately, I just couldn't pay that much money for a car that was a decade old.

Someday, I will regret it. Of course, shortly after I passed on the Midnight Blue TT, it had some expensive problems...

The 993 Turbos are not cheap to maintain. The NA versions are probably less complex and persnickety.

The 996's have to be one of the absolute bargains in the Porsche world.

Of course, I'd rather have a 993 or 997.

Although I did get a ride in a 911 TT, modified with GT2 Turbos, and estimated 550HP at the engine crank. Pretty impressive.

That's why they're at the top of the JD Powers, Consumer Reports, and any other automotive customer satisfaction lists year after year.

I currently own a 2007 Twin turbo,58 speedster,ML 63 and my Mini. The Mini is stupid fun for putting around town and just a great little car. It's keeping the others in the garage a little more than usual...But for road trips the TT and MlL are hard to beat..There's just something about 500 HP and 4 wheel drive that get you going so to speak...That said ,I love the Mini...Let's motor...

By the way, enjoy the new Porsche,There isn't a finer engineered car on the road for the price...

I guess when you can charge probably $150/hour in labor and astronomical prices on parts, you'll keep your clientele as happy as possible. And I'm willing to bet that the service writers aren't the same goobs you'll find around the corner at the Ford dealer who read out of book instead of ever getting their hands dirty. Ask a service writer who has tech experience and one with none what an O2 sensor does and you'll see what I mean.

Most definitely.

The Cayenne S was loads of fun, capable, solid, and bullet proof for the most part. But, to spend that kind of money maintaining an SUV will try anyone's patience. So, for 2008, we said goodbye to the Cayenne, and my wife now drives a 2008 X5 4.8i. Not as sporty as the Cayenne S, but larger, smoother, and best of all, maintenance is included on the BMW. That made the decision easy.

Again, it was a pleasure to work with Porsche technicians and also to see the obvious quality of the components and design. Great for a sportscar, but perhaps overkill for an SUV, at least for our SUV needs.

As a P-car and MCS owner, I understand your feelings. I'm enjoying the MCS so much I may sell the C4S Cab for now!

If you need iPod and BT since they were not offered on the '08, I can help you there as well. Just email me: eric@bumperplugs.com

Good luck!

To me personally....the discussion alone speaks volumes. Porch owners conversing over the finer points against a MINI Cooper? I think that we can all agree 65-70 mph on and off speed ramps are just way to fun!

Some deck owners beg to differ.

Yeah, except on curves where 70 mph felt fast in my old MCS, my 911 S feels rock steady at 80 mph.

I hope you are doing 80mph curves on a track...
