Anyone pay under MSRP? Or get freebies?

Hi all,

I saw one post where someone bought a Clubman for $500 under MSRP in Omaha. I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten any $$ off MSRP. If not, did you get the dealer to throw in any extras?

I'm days away from ordering a Clubman, and just can't stomach the idea of paying MSRP for a new car. I guess I may have to, but the more info I have, the better. My local dealer even adds a "dealer services fee" of $129 or something like that. MSRP is one thing, but I won't pay fees on top of it!

I'll be custom ordering mine: Nightfire red, Cold weather, MFSW, sport seats = 22,100 MSRP. What should I ask for?

Thanks!
Will

I got MSRP and free clearshield for the front.

I don't like paying MSRP, especially when my other choices had a lot of wiggle room, but the Clubman was worth it IMO to pay more.

Ask for a waiver of the dealer fees. "Destination" on the sticker price is supposed to cover that stuff. When you leave, let 'em know you love the car, but are also in love with a Miata. See if they offer anything in a follow-up call. Don't talk about cold weather package until they suggest it... I'm sure they will in Milwaukee... then hem & haw and maybe they'll knock off a few bucks... if not... nothing ventured, nothing gained. Read the "insider" story on edmunds.com

I paid straight MSRP, but got the dealer to throw in a complete set of rubber floor mats (including the boot). I'm going to push for a few other goodies like valve stem covers, but don't expect a whole lot otherwise (though I could be surprised).

doubt you'll get under msrp... but floormats should be a good toss-in.

I got 'em to toss in those plus mudflaps (not installed).

They have a buncha other goodies at the dealer (valvestem caps, hats, shirts, etc) that I'm gonna whine like a lil beyotch to try to get

I paid MSRP for mine. They threw in the floor mats and knocked off $200 of the install price for the stripes and chrome scuttle.

I have a follow up question, are any of your dealers adding a markup on the Clubman if they have to order it? One of my local dealers is (the closest) and I'm still waiting to hear back from one of the other 3 (all mini dealers are within 45 miles, so I'm willing to do that do avoid a huge mark-up)

I'll be paying MSRP, but will get the following for free: Sport Stripes, grocery bag holder, spare tire, floor mats, automatic selector color upgrade, e-brake handle color upgrade. The dealer is basically giving me all the items classified as Accessories for free. Had I known, I would have selected more - maybe when I pick it up...

Paid MSRP and got nearly $1,000 worth of frebbies. Keep in mind this was my 4th new MINI purchase from the same dealer since 2002, so I have VIP status at my dealer. (I also have referred a ton of business to them over the years).

For instance, I got the iPod adaptor (a $500+ value installed) for free I also got 2 sets of floor mats: Cloth with the "Clubman" and full MINI rubber mat set. Also got a Clubman Cuckoo clock ($135 value) a nice MINI polo shirt for me and a shirt for my toddler.

I also got a $500 rebate from my MINI Visa Platinum card as I had accrued over 50,000 points so decided to redeem them when we purchased the Clubman.

Very happy with the whole experience.

My dealer has been awesome too and has thrown in all kinds of freebies up to this point! Some for all the accessories I've bought and others for minor inconveniences.

With my car purchase I received: front and back "S" rubber mats, ski and snowboard holders and checkered valve stem caps.

For the inconvenience caused by my leaking window (roof rack recall) the dealer installed checkered door handles for free! I was psyched since I had wanted these but the labor was ridiculous, something like $800+ for all of it since it involved taking apart the doors.

My MINI Clubman looks fabulous and the dealer has been more then accommodating, so extremely pleased

I'm working with a local dealer and the sales person is telling me that they won't budge on the MSRP. This statement was made prior to even taking the test drive. I'm not sure why they are taking such a hard stance on the price, the model I am considering is a launch edition so I suspect it has sat for a few months. In fact, there are several launch editions still on the lot. Like a previous poster said, it's still worth asking for the extras, I plan to.

In this market with gas prices, they probably don't have to move much off MSRP, especially if they have to order one for you. In fact, once you buy the car, you DON'T want them selling off MSRP. It protects your car's value a LOT more. My friend has a Nissan Titan and was looking to trade it. With rebates of $5,000, plus dealers willing to sell at invoice, guess what happened to the value of his truck...

If we get MSRP and no added fees, I'd be happy.
As I'll tell the showroom staff, I feel that the deal is about a "4" on their telephone survey. Hell, we did all the work in configuring the car. He just punched into the computer what we had already worked out. They'll need to WOW me if they want all "5's". Floor mats and a service manual tossed in would most likely bump it up to a 4.5 or so.

BTW- I HATE those type of surveys (anything less than a top score is failing? Why not just use a 1 or a zero?) and my company started using them as well!

So, here is how I got my Clubman under MSRP. First off pure luck. Back in September a neighbor of mine whom I had never met, stops at my house while my girlfriend and I were washing our Minis. He asked if we knew anyone who would want get a good deal on a Mini his boss had won. Curiosity killing that cat, and knowing that I really wanted a 08 as a daily driver instead of the Xb I was driving, I said have him call me.

I try to keep this short a possible. He called me and explained he was a distributor of cel phones and equipment, and he won a Mini from Samsung corp. for being the leading seller in the US. Didn’t have much info at the time, but he was not interested in having a Mini. I asked him to contact me when he got more info Month or so later, he calls and said he thinks it may be a convertible, but not sure. I told him I wouldn’t be interested, but to still contact me, for I could help him find a buyer. So again, a month goes by and he calls me with the details. Samsung will cut a check to our local dealer, and he can order what ever he wants up to 29k. NOW, he has my attention.

He tells me I can go order a car the way I want it, and he will let me have it for 5k under what ever it cost to build. I’m all over that. So after verifying the validity of the check with the local dealer, I went in and ordered a pw/pw Clubman S. Now, understand, I have ever met this gentleman, just phone conversations and taking each others words for trust. He had no idea if I was anymore on the up and up than he. I went the whole way on his word.

Well, yesterday, I met him at the dealership yesterday after noon. After he finished all the paper work ( since he was the one who one it ). He turned the car right over to me. So technically, I bought the car used with 10miles on it. He also paid all the fees and taxes. So the bottom line came to, I build the car for 28k, he sold it me for 23k. and in AZ, you don’t have to pay tax on a used car bought between private parties. I will only have to pay my registration when I go put it in my name at the DMV.

OBTW, I had already bought stuff for it while I was waiting for it to get here. I got home ]
At 6pm, by 730 had it up on jack stands, and suspension out. Then new springs, new wheels and tires, new black gill pieces and back together by 9pm. So here is a picture of Samsung. ( name choice is obvious)

nice story Az... but I really don't think it qualifies for "purchasing under msrp" since it's not you giving $ to the dealer.

Still cool that you got it for less tho

I got a bit more than I expected when I picked up my Clubman today. The first thing I noticed was that the mirror caps were chrome, instead of the silver that I'd ordered. At first, I thought that I had accidentally been given the chrome line exterior, but it was just the caps. After I checked that I hadn't been charged for them, my MA told me that they had just put them on and I still got the boxed-up silver caps in case I want to replace them. Nice! I think I'm going to keep the chrome; I probably just didn't order them to save a bit of $$ in one part of the car.

The second freebie I got was a fold-up boot box that's about 18" cube. Finally, there was a cargo net in the boot, as well. Does everyone get one of these, or was today just my extra-lucky day?
