WOO-HOO Ordered Finally

I just sent in my order today and signed the papers.

They waived the $595 Delivery Package "another word for added profit"...PLUS
another $500 off.
I figure it went real well.

HC/S HC lounge leather, prem pkg, conv pkg, cold wthr pkg, clear taillites, fog lights F&R, english oak int surface. Didn't do the sport pkg because I am adding custom wheels anyway.
Now waiting on production #

i thought i had a good deal when i bought a 2006 mini cooper last year. since the car is in their lot for 1 year, the MA gave me $1200 off MSRP. the MSRP was $21450. anyway, when i was in patrick mini today, they have the 2008 mini cooper in their showcase room and the MSRP is $21250!!! SAME features as my 2006 cooper except the color... how can that be? 2006 is higher by $200 msrp on the 2008 model?

Congrats on your order. I ordered mine today as well!

I ended up not buying from my local dealer; they wouldn't even throw in floormats, much less waive their "dealer services" fee. I gave the locals the opprtunity to match my other offer, but they wouldn't. So, Chicago it is! I signed via fax this afternoon.

Thanks again, everyone, for the comments and suggestions.

Replying to this, and my own post yesterday

Well, I've had a very interesting experience. Yesterday I posted asking about a deal on leasing in Canada, and what sort of "throw-ins" might be available, since MSRP was taken for granted.

When I talked to the salesman on the phone shortly after posting, to finally get around to talking about money, he had faxed me an estimate with about $800 off sticker, rubber mats, locking wheel nuts, and the battery charger for the engine Minis use here in lieu of a block heater. Very nice surprise, for me.

FWIW, in case there are other Canadians out there looking, the deal is $33 315 (incl. freight etc.) as configured, offered for 32 628. The lease (24000 km per year, about 15000 miles) is $568.97 per month with $0 down, or about $32 less per month for every $1000 down.

I may be missing something here, but this seems reasonable. I hope this helps.

For a custom-ordered MCS, MSRP $27,850, I was able to get some California dealers to go under MSRP:
  • S.F. MINI: $850 under MSRP, free floor mats ($100 retail)
  • East Bay MINI: $850 under, free mats
  • South Bay MINI: $850 under, free mats
  • Niello MINI: $850 under, free mats
  • Monrovia MINI: $373.92 under, free mats
I went with S.F. They also let me put $5000 (possibly $6000) on a credit card (worth 1.5% to me).

raf- thanks for the info.
We ordered ours from East Bay. Near our house and now just around the corner from my work. We'll see how our deal works out. If I get at MSRP with a few items thrown in (mats, spare tire, service manual) I'd be ok.
I am pretty sure most sales have gone soft. We were on the dealer lot tonight, way after closing time, and one of the reps unlocked the doors, came out and asked if there was anything in particular we were interested in. In a HOT sales market, you know they wouldn't be chasing down customers like that.

Wow have times changed since I bought my 05. SF and Mountain View MINI were charging $3500 OVER MSRP! Needless to say I bought my car in Ohio. I may be looking to "upgrade" to a Çlubman in a few years. I have to see how well the kid (maybe kids) will do in the Coupe.

To clarify, that's for the hardtop right? I wonder if Clubman can be had with similar deals, especially in CA.

I'm going to be paying MSRP with free floormats. That's not too bad considering there was a 4k markup on all the cars on the lot. I casually asked during the test drive if I could get one for MSRP and to my surprise the salesman immediately said yes!

I just took delivery of my MC-CMs and the only dealer I was able to find that would do MSRP was Long Beach. Crev and Nick Alexander wouldn't. Monrovia were just idiots and I didn't try South Bay.

My dealer is Irvine. Since I ordered the car, they've taken the market adjustment stickers off all of the cars on the lot.

I don't know, but to me opening a door and asking if you need some help is not chasing down a sale??? Seems to me it is the right thing to do.

No deals here. Texas dealers are getting MSRP.
They put a Mini folding box and small net in the boot. That's it.
Six days later, there are no rattles, thunks or sounds that shouldn't be there.

First, SteveJ - I guess you haven't been reading because MINI sales are seriously up see http://www.motoringfile.com/2008/05/...comment-221322 and for specifics you can check Ian Cull's site http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2008/04/thats_more_like_it/

DragonWagon, I don't know of any dealers around my neck of the woods who go below MSRP either. I've had things given to me over the years in different sales..once an iPod aux input, always the 4 rubber mats, this time along with the Clubman carpet mats, 4 rubber plus the boot mat, a net and a collapsable box. I really don't expect anything more than the rubber mats - and for them I'm very happy.

I do imagine that if someone is buying a fully loaded to the max MINI that the extras might be more plentiful. I've been very pleased over the years with the trade ins, the service and more at my dealership - and that's what's important to me.

Just signed the lease on mine yesterday. The cars were flying off the lot, two cars within the showroom had sold stickers, two outside were sold and their last Clubman was in the process of being sold (and I had just taken it out for a test drive! ). In the end I received just a little more than $600 under MSRP and they threw in the floor mats...I kept repeating...400+ miles/tank vs. 242/tank (Xterra)...

YES. It is the right thing to do. Especially in a sales job and even more so in a slow economy. Unfortunately, I have seen many sales people be indifferent when I am in their showroom/store in the past. My dollar will work just as well at the local dealer as it will at the dealer in the next town.

I am in a service industry. I know that you have to please your customer. If you don't, some other business will be happy to do it. I believe some car sales people need to get over the dot-com boom economy (that is gone) and start working to get/please/keep customers.

"A customer on the lot? Oh, it's late. I'm tired. I'll just sell an extra car or two tomorrow." Those days are gone.

This sales rep coming out an hour or more AFTER closing time was a small guesture, but it did get noticed. Just another reason I will spend my dollar there.

Yes, hardtop. Also, no trade-in, and I'm paying cash. Carpet or rubber mats will be my option. S.F. initially quoted MSRP +$2500 (or was it $3500?), but that quickly went down to MSRP. After that, I did everything over e-mail; I queried 13 dealers in Nor-Cal and L.A., telling them exactly what I wanted. Most quoted MSRP. S.F. was the first to go under MSRP; the others matched; South Bay offered mats, then the others matched that. Some dealers claimed they never go under MSRP, and some dealers never wrote back to me at all.

Regarding customer service: I visited two MINI dealerships, three times total, and each time no-one came to help me as I perused, and then when I went looking for help, I was told I would have to wait. Not what I'm used to, but in any case I got what I wanted in the end.

Otra,
I do know that MINIs are a hot commodity in this market.
When sales are up for one brand, that means that sales are probably down for another. (Hummer, maybe?)

But overall, sales for just about everything are slower. Real estate, luxury items, etc... Many of the people that generated all those fast sales years ago now have less disposable income or are maybe even in foreclosure. Fewer buyers means that sellers may have to work a bit harder to make that sale.

Steve, of course you're right that sales in just about everything are slower.

My experience with MINI dealerships is that the sales people have always been low key - which I prefer. Everyone has a different view of what they consider "chasing down sales", I guess...

Hope you love your Clubman when you take delivery!

Steve,
What did you end up paying for your Mini? Clubman?
I was on the waiting list at East Bay Mini for the new JCW (John Cooper Works) Clubman for the last 2 months and when I could officially order
the car (yesterday), my sales guy said there's a $2500 premium price!
For the non-JCW Clubman "S" it's msrp +$2000. These are custom orders, not off the lot,"Have it Today" prices. I was very disapointed
I bought my first MCS at East bay in 2002 and paid msrp and always thought
they were the best deal in the SF Bay area and have spoken highly of them
since 2002. The saleman says the extra charge is beyond his control and he's just the messenger.
I guess I'll try start with the other SF Bay area dealers and work east till I at least fine a JCW Clumban or Clubman S selling for msrp.

Is anyone getting a Clubman S or JCW Clubman for msrp in the Sf Bay Area?

I'm getting a Clubman S from East Bay Mini at MSRP. I went to East Bay Mini because I didn't want to pay the mark up. The mark up is on the sticker on the lot, but they gave me a song and dance and said if you have your Mini serviced here, we'll take off the mark up.

Obviously, they have no way to know if I'll ever bring it back there or not, so it was just their tactic, but I would have walked if they kept the mark up on the car (in fact, I called and drove there because they said they wouldn't charge a mark up.. I'm in San Jose). Mini of Mtn. View wouldn't waive the markup.

I just got off the phone with Mini of Mountain View and they want a $2500
mark-up on the Clubman S and $3500 mark-up on the new JCW Clubman.
I think I should just write off the SF Bay area Mini dealers and try So. Cal.
Anybody know of a good msrp or less dealer in LA area?

Try Irvine, Long Beach, or South Bay. You should get good service at any of those three.
